New Sonic the Hedgehog wireless earphones play sounds from the games

In celebration of Sonic the Hedgehog’s birthday, Japanese audio equipment manufacturer Onkyo has unveiled two new pairs of earphones.
Two new models of their “CP-TWS01D” completely wireless earphones have been created, based on the iconic Sega character and his rival, Shadow the Hedgehog.

Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega’s flagship character, made his debut on June 23rd, 1991, quickly becoming a global video game icon known for his supersonic speed, bright blue quills, and rebellious attitude.
His rival Shadow the Hedgehog was introduced in “Sonic Adventure 2” and is an anti-hero known for his dark persona and equally impressive speed.

The “CP-TWS01D” earphones are a dual-branded product of Onkyo and Musashino Label, a company specializing in high-quality audio accessories.
These earphones are designed with a compact form factor, ensuring that the housing remains discreet when worn and offers a high degree of fit.
This design minimizes interference and reduces the risk of the earphones dislodging during movement, even during sleep.

Their small and lightweight nature also enhances portability, while actively preventing sound leakage and external noise, providing a focused listening experience.

The collaboration offers two different models: the predominantly white “Sonic” model, and the “Shadow” model which features a black base.

Each charging case is adorned with the respective character’s logo, while the left and right earphone housings showcase the silhouette of Sonic or Shadow.

A standout feature for fans is the integration of five unique in-game sound effects into each model.
Four of the sound effects are the same regardless of model but each different model has a unique sound that plays to confirm a successful connection.

The CP-TWS01D wireless earphones feature Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, support for AAC and SBC codecs, and an IPX4 waterproof rating (excluding the charging case), making them resistant to splashes.

Each earphone has a 30mAh battery, while the charging case provides an additional 220mAh, allowing for three full earphone recharges and a continuous playback time of approximately 5 hours at 100% volume.

The charging case utilizes a USB Type-C port for convenient charging.
For those attending the “Sonic Birthday Party 2025” event at Tokyo Joypolis in Minato Ward, Tokyo, on June 23rd (from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM), the wireless earphones will be on display, offering a first-hand look at the designs.

Onkyo’s physical store, “Otoani” (located in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo), will also host a live demo of the earphones starting from 11:00 AM on June 24th.
This will allow prospective buyers to experience the unique sound effects and assess the audio quality of the models before placing an order.

Pre-orders for these earphones are now open via Onkyo’s online shopping platforms, ONKYO DIRECT and ONKYO DIRECT ANIME STORE (Otoani).
Each pair of headphones are priced at 15,000 yen each (approx. $102 USD / £75 GBP), inclusive of tax and shipping within Japan.
The pre-order period will run until August 6th, 3:00 PM JST, with order shipments scheduled to commence from mid-October 2025.
