Pokemon Champions Arrives on Switch This April

The Pokémon Company and developer The Pokémon Works have announced that the upcoming battle game Pokémon Champions is scheduled to launch for the Nintendo Switch on April 8, 2026.
This free-to-start title focuses on competitive online play where trainers build teams of Pokémon to engage in strategic turn-based matches against others.

While the initial release is set for the current Nintendo Switch hardware, a future free update will enable Switch 2 owners to experience the game with enhanced graphics.
Mobile players can also look forward to the title as versions for iOS and Android are planned for release later in 2026.

The gameplay mechanics draw from the long-standing Pokémon RPG series and incorporate elements such as type advantages, special abilities, and the return of Mega Evolution.
Trainers can participate in various online modes, including Ranked Battles for competitive play, Casual Battles for practice, and Private Battles using a Room ID system.

To build their rosters, players can connect to the Pokémon HOME app to transfer compatible Pokémon from previous games or the Pokémon Go mobile application.
A daily recruitment system also allows players to use a random Pokemon for one week, with the option to spend Victory Points to keep them permanently.

Victory Points are earned through gameplay and can be used to customize Pokémon stats, moves, and natures, or to purchase items and trainer cosmetics from the in-game shop.
For those looking for a head start, a Pokémon Champions and Starter Pack bundle will be available for purchase featuring 50 Pokémon, various tickets, and classic battle music.

Additional monetization options include a Premium Battle Pass and a membership service to provide players with extra rewards and content.
