Trump’s Iran War Forces Japan’s Top Airlines to Double Fuel Surcharges

For flights departing Japan heading toward Europe and North America in April and May, surcharges sat at roughly 30,000 yen.
Travelers will face increases ranging from 50 percent to nearly 100 percent, depending on their chosen route.
Higher ticket prices could potentially impact international tourism and business travel volumes during the busy summer vacation season.
To offset the financial strain of the increased fuel prices, both companies have outlined their updated fee structures:

- Price: 55,000 yen (approx. $345 USD / £273 GBP)
- Japan Airlines (JAL) Fuel Surcharge
- Price: 50,000 yen (approx. $314 USD / £248 GBP)
Koji Shibata, the current president of ANA Holdings Inc., addressed the volatile economic situation while speaking to reporters on April 1.
The airline executive noted that while oil prices have been highly influenced by recent remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump, overall market rates remain consistently high.
He assured the public that the company plans to carefully assess the ongoing geopolitical situation and respond appropriately to protect operations.
The new fuel surcharge price levels will be formally determined and finalized following necessary applications to the relevant aviation authorities in each operating country.
