Pizza Hut Japan has announced its first-ever collaboration with Gion Tsujiri, a historic and highly respected purveyor of fine Japanese tea from Kyoto.

The new partnership will see the launch of a limited-edition, Japanese-style dessert pizza.

Gion Tsujiri is a legendary tea shop with a history that dates back to 1860, renowned for its dedication to the highest quality Uji matcha, which is traditionally stone-ground.

This new collaboration brings that artisanal quality to a unique, new “Handy Melts” product.

The “Gion Tsujiri Collab Handy Melts Matcha Shiratama Kuromitsu” is a new kind of Japanese-Western fusion dessert pizza.

It features a crispy crust that has been kneaded with Gion Tsujiri’s matcha, and is filled with a rich matcha bean paste, chewy “shiratama dango” (mochi balls), and cheese.

The combination of the bittersweet matcha and the savory cheese creates a unique “sweet and salty” flavor profile, which is accented by the deep sweetness of “kuromitsu” brown sugar syrup.

To celebrate the launch, a special promotional set will also be available.

Customers who purchase the “Autumn Tsukimi Pizza Set” can add a second “Matcha Handy Melts” to their order for the discounted, half-price rate of ¥395.

A social media campaign will also be held on the platform X and on Instagram.

By following the official accounts and reposting or liking the campaign message, a total of 30 participants will be chosen by lottery to win a “Gion Tsujiri Five-Variety Teabag Assortment.”

It is priced at ¥550 for takeout or ¥790 for delivery.

The new dessert pizza is scheduled to be released at Pizza Hut locations across Japan on Monday, the 1st of September, and will be available until the 26th of October, 2025.
