Dr. STONE Officially Returns with New Sequel Anime Just Months After Series Finale

Dr. STONE is officially returning for a new sequel anime just months after the television series appeared to bring Senku and the Kingdom of Science’s seven-year journey to an end.
The newly announced “Dr. STONE TERRAFORMING” will continue the story after the finale by adapting the post-series “TERRAFORMING” manga episode created by original writer Riichiro Inagaki and artist Boichi.

Dr. STONE follows scientific prodigy Senku Ishigami after humanity is mysteriously petrified, leaving him to awaken thousands of years later and rebuild civilization from scratch using science.
The anime began in July 2019 and eventually expanded across four seasons alongside the standalone “Dr. STONE: Ryusui” television special.

Its final season, “Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE,” concluded on June 25, 2026, after following the Kingdom of Science through its final journey toward the Moon and confrontation with Whyman.
That finale completed the main storyline of Inagaki and Boichi’s original manga, which ended its Weekly Shonen Jump serialization in March 2022.

Senku’s adventures did not completely end there, however, with Inagaki and Boichi later returning for additional stories set after the original conclusion.
“TERRAFORMING” was first published as a special one-shot in July 2022 and is now collected in the manga’s 27th volume alongside further post-series material.

The story sends Senku and several familiar members of the Kingdom of Science into another survival situation after an unexpected accident leaves them facing a new scientific challenge far removed from the civilization they worked to rebuild.
It also pushes the scale of Senku’s ambitions even further, extending the series’ central idea that seemingly impossible problems can eventually be overcome through experimentation, engineering, and accumulated scientific knowledge.

The production of “Dr. STONE TERRAFORMING” was officially revealed during “STONE FES.2026” on October 10, with an announcement video featuring newly recorded dialogue from Senku.
Original writer Riichiro Inagaki also marked the announcement with a message celebrating the fact that Senku’s scientific adventures still have a little further to go, while Boichi thanked viewers and shared his excitement at seeing the continuation animated.
TV anime character designer Yuko Iwasa separately created a new commemorative illustration for the sequel announcement.

Volume 27 also contains the later three-part “Dr. STONE: 4D Science” story, which continues beyond “TERRAFORMING,” although the newly announced anime project currently names only “TERRAFORMING” and no adaptation of those additional chapters has been confirmed.
The sequel arrives as Dr. STONE continues to explore the final stages of Senku’s original journey through other projects, including the ongoing “ROAD TO THE MOON” exhibition at Tokyo Dome City’s Space Travelium TeNQ.

That exhibition follows the series’ progression from rebuilding civilization on Earth to reaching space, with displays, interactive activities, and newly illustrated merchandise based around Senku, Ryusui, Kohaku, and Stanley.
The franchise has also remained active since the television finale through new collaborations, including a current PIZZA-LA campaign that turns foods and inventions encountered during the story into a themed pizza and exclusive merchandise.

A release date, format, and episode count for “Dr. STONE TERRAFORMING” have not yet been announced, with further details on the new anime set to be revealed at a later date.
