Gundam’s Definitive Gunpla Art Book Set for First-Ever US Release

A new Gundam art book is set for release for the first time in North America this month, giving fans a closer look at the work of renowned illustrator Hidetaka Tenjin through a dedicated collection arriving in both standard and collector-focused editions.
Mobile Suit Gundam has stood as one of Japan’s most influential anime franchises for nearly 50 years, growing far beyond its original series into films, manga, video games, and the hugely popular Gunpla model kit hobby while shaping the modern mecha genre.

Hidetaka Tenjin has become one of the most recognizable artists tied to the franchise, known for his highly detailed mechanical illustrations that have defined the look of countless Gunpla box covers and promotional materials over the years.

“Hidetaka Tenjin’s Artistry of Gundam” compiles a wide range of Tenjin’s Gundam artwork into a single volume, including pieces originally created for model kit packaging, Blu-ray releases, magazines, and video games.

Two versions of the book, which is being released in North America for the very first time, will be available at launch.

The standard hardcover edition measures approximately 20.96 × 28.58 cm and will be widely available through major online retailers and brick and mortar bookstores for $49.99 (approx. ¥7,200 / £36 GBP).

For collectors, an oversized “U.C. Edition” exclusive to the UDON Entertainment store will also be released, measuring approximately 25.4 × 34.54 cm and featuring 144 full-color pages, priced at $89.99 (approx. ¥12,900 / £66 GBP).

While both editions include the same artwork, the larger format of the U.C. Edition is designed to better showcase the intricate detail present in Tenjin’s illustrations.

“Hidetaka Tenjin’s Artistry of Gundam” is currently set to release in July 2026, with the standard edition arriving at general retailers and the “U.C. Edition” launching exclusively through the UDON Entertainment online store.
