Evangelion’s Rei Ayanami joins BANDAI’s S.H.Figuarts line this November

BANDAI SPIRITS has officially announced the upcoming release of an S.H.Figuarts figure of Rei Ayanami.
The new figure will feature her in her iconic plug suit and will be based on her appearance in the film “Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo”.

This release commemorates the 30th anniversary of the “Neon Genesis Evangelion” television series, which first aired in 1995 and revolutionized the mecha anime genre with its complex psychological themes, philosophical undertones, and striking imagery.
The wider 30th anniversary celebrations have already included collaborations with FILA, Hammamatsu City and two new Zoids action figures.

This new figure was announced alongside the reveal that a number of METAL BUILD Evangelion figures would be re-released.

“Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo” is the third film in the “Rebuild of Evangelion” tetralogy.
The film significantly diverges from the original TV series, picking up 14 years after the previous film in the series and plunging protagonist Shinji Ikari into a drastically changed world where he is viewed with suspicion by his former allies in the anti-NERV organization WILLE.
Rei Ayanami is the pilot of Evangelion Unit-00 and plays an important and often mysterious role throughout the original anime series and the Rebuild films.

The S.H.Figuarts line is a popular series of highly articulated action figures known for their intricate sculpting, range of motion, and accurate portrayal of characters from various anime, manga, and tokusatsu properties.
The “S.H.Figuarts Rei Ayanami” figure is engineered to allow for a wide array of natural poses.

A key design innovation is the movable torso, which enables the figure to achieve expressive postures such as an arched chest or a twisted waist, all while maintaining the recognisable silhouette of Rei’s plug suit.
The inner thigh and knee joints have also been designed with a “roll” mechanism, a sophisticated articulation point that allows for particularly natural and “ladylike” sitting postures which are often a challenge for action figures.

The figure stands approximately 135mm (about 5.3 inches) tall and is constructed from durable PVC and ABS materials.
The figure also features a range of interchangeable parts.
There are five types of interchangeable facial parts which allow collectors to recreate the various emotional states of Rei Ayanami from the series.

Some of these facial expressions feature subtle cheek gradations, carefully adjusted to give a softer, more nuanced appearance.
There are also five types of interchangeable wrist parts which provide versatility for holding accessories or creating different hand gestures.
This figure comes with a honeycomb-shaped display stand that is designed to facilitate easy posing and display, particularly when combined with the recently announced “S.H.Figuarts Shikinami Asuka Langley” figure that will allow fans to recreate iconic scenes featuring both Eva pilots.

The “S.H.Figuarts Rei Ayanami” will be a general store release, which means it will be available through various retailers and hobby stores rather than just Bandai’s web exclusive platforms.

Pre-orders can be placed with hobby stores and specialist retailers from July 1st prior to the figures planned release in November 2025.
The “S.H.Figuarts Rei Ayanami” actionfigure will be priced at 8,800 yen (approx. $60.41 USD / £44.35 GBP).
