Persona Announces New Official 30th Anniversary Initial D Collab
Persona 5 Royal and Initial D have announced a new collaboration that will see Joker, Panther, and Queen enter the world of Shuichi Shigeno’s hugely popular street-racing series as part of Persona’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
The crossover will take place in “Initial D THE ARCADE,” SEGA’s current arcade racing game based on the long-running manga and anime franchise.
Initial D follows Takumi Fujiwara, a young driver who develops extraordinary skills while delivering tofu across the mountain roads of Gunma in his father’s Toyota AE86, eventually becoming involved in increasingly competitive street races against some of Japan’s most recognizable performance cars.
SEGA has been adapting those races into arcade games for more than two decades, with “Initial D THE ARCADE” launching in 2021 and allowing players to compete across familiar mountain passes using a wide selection of licensed Japanese cars.
Persona 5 Royal expands on ATLUS’ 2016 RPG and follows Joker and the Phantom Thieves as they enter a supernatural world known as the Metaverse to change the hearts of corrupt adults while balancing their everyday lives as students in Tokyo.
The wider Persona series’ ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations have already produced a wide range of games, events, collaborations and merchandise throughout 2026.
Recent anniversary releases have included new artwork showing Shadow versions of the series’ protagonists, a five-bottle Persona-inspired sake collection and specially tuned gaming earphones featuring characters from across the franchise.
For the Initial D collaboration, players will be able to obtain new in-game items based on Joker, Panther and Queen, including car designs inspired by the three Phantom Thieves.
Persona 5 Royal’s strong red-and-black visuals should translate naturally to the customized cars used throughout Initial D THE ARCADE, while giving the Phantom Thieves a very different setting outside their usual supernatural battles.
Three Persona 5 songs will also become available as race BGM during the event, allowing players to compete while listening to “Life Will Change,” “Last Surprise” and “Rivers in the Desert”.
All three tracks are closely associated with some of Persona 5’s biggest moments and battles, with “Life Will Change” in particular becoming one of the most recognizable pieces of music connected with the Phantom Thieves.
Additional collaboration items will be obtainable by playing the arcade game, with further details about the complete reward lineup expected closer to the start of the event.
The Initial D crossover isn’t the only racing-game collaboration tied to Persona 5 this month, with Rocket League also preparing its own event from September 25 that will turn Morgana into a playable “Mona Car” alongside additional Joker- and Panther-themed content.
The “Persona 5 Royal x Initial D THE ARCADE” collaboration will begin at participating arcades across Japan on October 8, 2026, and is scheduled to continue until January 20, 2027.
