Bandai Launches Huge New Gundam X Anniversary Project Featuring All 39 Episodes
Image by Charlotte DavisBandai has launched a new Mobile Suit Gundam X 30th anniversary project that will see every episode of the original anime turned into its own commemorative poster before being displayed across Japan.
Titled “Gundam X Is Always There,” the project will feature 39 different posters based on all 39 episodes of the 1996 TV series, with each design using memorable scenes and characters from its corresponding episode.
The campaign name also deliberately echoes the title of Gundam X’s 39th and final episode, “The Moon Will Always Be There,” giving the project a direct connection to one of the series’ most recognizable phrases.
Mobile Suit Gundam X originally aired from April to December 1996 and introduced a post-apocalyptic alternate timeline where Earth had been devastated by mass colony drops at the end of the 7th Space War.
Its story follows young junk dealer Garrod Ran after he encounters the mysterious Tiffa Adill and becomes the pilot of the GX-9900 Gundam X, eventually joining the crew of the Freeden as they become caught up in conflicts surrounding Newtypes and the threat of another large-scale war.
The new posters will begin appearing from September 14 at Gundam-related locations across Japan, although Bandai has not released a complete list of participating locations yet.
Individual locations will be announced progressively through Gundam’s official social media channels, turning the campaign into something fans can search for while travelling around Japan.
A separate social media campaign has also launched alongside the announcement posters, asking fans to share photographs representing what Gundam X means to them or scenes and places that remind them of the series.
Participants need to follow the official Gundam account on X, quote-repost the campaign message with their photograph and thoughts, and include the hashtag “#ガンダムXはいつもそこにある”.
Thirty winners will receive one of three special A5 mini posters using newly drawn artwork created for the upcoming “Mobile Suit Gundam X Complete Records A.W. 30th Chronicle” art book, with 10 copies of each design being awarded at random.
The giveaway runs from September 7 through September 30, although sadly for fans based internationally, the prizes can only be shipped within Japan.
The A.W. 30th Chronicle itself is one of the biggest releases created for the anniversary, combining two A4 full-color volumes of more than 250 pages each with episode guides, storyboards, production materials, interviews and newly commissioned artwork.
Pre-orders for the art book remain open until October 4, with the set priced at ¥14,300 (approx. $92 USD / £68 GBP) and scheduled for release on January 26, 2027.
Besides the new poster project, Bandai has steadily been rolling out new 30th anniversary merchandise for Gundam X, recently revealing both a life-size PROPLICA recreation of the G-Controller and a new METAL ROBOT SPIRITS Gundam Double X premium figure.
The anniversary celebrations have also expanded beyond merchandise, with Koichi Tokita returning to the series for the new sequel manga “Gundam X FLASH,” which continues the story of Garrod and Tiffa three decades after the original anime’s debut.
