Bandai has announced a brand-new sequel manga for After War Gundam X, with Gundam X FLASH set to continue the story of the 1996 anime during its 30th anniversary year.

The new series will be drawn by Koichi Tokita and begins serialization in the October 2026 issue of Monthly Gundam Ace, marking another major addition to the anniversary celebrations surrounding the series.

After War Gundam X originally began broadcasting in Japan on April 5, 1996, introducing an alternate Gundam timeline set in a devastated world recovering from a catastrophic war between Earth and the space colonies.

At the heart of the story are Garrod Ran and Tiffa Adill, whose relationship develops as they travel aboard the Freeden while becoming caught up in conflicts involving Newtypes, the New United Nations Earth, and the surviving forces of the previous war.

Gundam X FLASH will not pick up directly from the television finale, instead serving as a sequel to After War Gundam X NEXT PROLOGUE “If I’m With You,” the 2018 follow-up manga that previously continued Garrod and Tiffa’s journey.

That 64-page story was supervised by Gundam X director Shinji Takamatsu, written by series scriptwriter Hiroyuki Kawasaki, and illustrated by Tokita, originally appearing as part of the anime’s Blu-ray Memorial Box before later being republished in the Gundam X Re Edition manga collection.

NEXT PROLOGUE was a direct sequel to the television finale and introduced new developments for Garrod and Tiffa, alongside returning characters and mobile suits, effectively leaving the door open for their story to continue beyond the series’ ending.

FLASH now turns that possibility into a full serialization, although story details surrounding the new adventure and how much time has passed since NEXT PROLOGUE have yet to be revealed.

A two-page spread from the first chapter has already been shown alongside the announcement, offering an early glimpse at Tokita’s return to the After War timeline before the complete opening installment is published.

Tokita also shared a personal message reflecting on his history with Gundam X, having previously drawn the manga adaptation that ran in the children’s magazine Comic BomBom alongside the original television broadcast.

“Thirty years ago, the manga serialization in the children’s magazine Comic BomBom that ran alongside the TV broadcast was very well received,” Tokita said in the message accompanying the reveal.

“I think it was precisely because they were children that they were able to honestly feel the appeal of this work,” he continued, reflecting on the younger audience that followed his original adaptation.

Tokita explained that he is now working every day to deliver “a new Gundam X drama,” adding that although FLASH will introduce new elements, his feelings toward Gundam X itself remain unchanged.

He closed by expressing his hope that those feelings will reach fans once again and asking readers to support the new series as it begins.

The manga arrives during an increasingly busy 30th anniversary year for Gundam X, which has already included a number of new Gunpla kits such as the HGAW Gundam Leopard, HGAW Gundam Virsago and HGAW Gundam Ashtaron, as well as a re-release of the series’ definitive blu-ray collection.

After War Gundam X FLASH will begin serialization when Monthly Gundam Ace’s October 2026 issue goes on sale in Japan on August 26, priced at ¥900 (approx. $6 USD / £4 GBP).

With Tokita returning to a story he first worked on three decades ago, FLASH will give Gundam X fans their first continuing manga follow-up to Garrod and Tiffa’s post-series journey since NEXT PROLOGUE appeared in 2018.
