Gundam X’s Definitive Blu-ray Collection is Getting a 30th Anniversary Reprint
Fans of After War Gundam X will soon have another opportunity to add the series’ premium home video release to their collections, with Bandai Namco Filmworks announcing an encore edition of the “After War Gundam X Blu-ray Memorial Box” as part of the anime’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
The returning Blu-ray release brings together all 39 episodes of the original anime series, allowing viewers to revisit one of the Gundam franchise’s most notable alternate-universe entries in a single collection.
Originally broadcast on April 5, 1996, After War Gundam X, also known as Mobile New Century Gundam X, was produced as the third installment in Gundam’s Alternative Series lineup, telling a story separate from the long-running Universal Century timeline.
Set in a world devastated by a catastrophic Colony Drop, the series follows the crew of the Freeden as they become caught between the New Earth Federation and the Space Revolutionary Army while protagonist Garrod Ran fights to protect Tiffa Adill and discovers the significance of Newtypes.
In addition to the complete anime series, the “After War Gundam X Blu-ray Memorial Box” includes audio commentary tracks covering six episodes, including Episode 3 and Episode 15.
The collection also comes packaged with the original comic “If I’m With You,” which was created under the supervision of director Shinji Takamatsu, with story contributions from Hiroyuki Kawasaki and artwork by Kouichi Tokita.
Alongside the Blu-ray announcement, Bandai Namco Filmworks has also revealed a major anniversary reference publication titled “Mobile New Century Gundam X Complete Records Collection A.W. 30th Chronicle”.
The book has been designed as an extensive two-volume archive covering the history and production of After War Gundam X.
Included within the collection are character, mobile suit, and warship setting materials, as well as development sketches created by mechanical designer Kunio Okawara and character designer Seihou Nishimura.
The publication also features a complete guide to all 39 episodes, storyboards from memorable scenes, interviews with production staff members, and four separate cast discussion sessions.
Together, the Blu-ray release and archival book form the centerpiece of the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebrations, giving both longtime fans and newcomers multiple ways to revisit the series.
Pre-orders for both products opened through A-on STORE, Premium Bandai, and other participating retailers on June 20, 2026.
The “Mobile New Century Gundam X Complete Records Collection A.W. 30th Chronicle” book is scheduled for release on January 26, 2027, priced at ¥14,300 (approx. $99 USD/ £78 GBP), while the “After War Gundam X Blu-ray Memorial Box” encore edition will follow on March 26, 2027, priced at ¥57,200 (approx. $395 USD/ £312 GBP).
