Bandai Unveils Massive New Gundam X 30th Anniversary Art Book

A major new publication celebrating the 30th anniversary of Mobile New Century Gundam X has been announced, giving fans an extensive look back at one of the Gundam franchise’s most distinctive alternate-universe series.
The newly revealed “Mobile New Century Gundam X Complete Records Collection A.W. 30th Chronicle” has been created as a comprehensive archival release that explores the production, characters, story, and mechanical designs behind the 1996 television anime.

Originally broadcast on April 5, 1996, Mobile New Century Gundam X was produced as the third entry in Gundam’s Alternative Series lineup, presenting a setting separate from the long-running Universal Century timeline.

The story follows the crew of the Freeden as they become embroiled in conflicts involving the New Earth Federation and the Space Revolutionary Army following the devastating Colony Drop that left Earth in ruins.

The series also explores protagonist Garrod Ran’s personal growth as he fights to protect Tiffa Adill while examining the role of humanity’s evolved Newtype population.

Designed as a two-volume set, “Mobile New Century Gundam X Complete Records Collection A.W. 30th Chronicle” gathers a substantial amount of reference material covering the series’ cast of characters, mobile suits, spacecraft, and other elements from the world of Gundam X.

Fans will also find rough design sketches created during development by mechanical designer Kunio Okawara and character designer Seihou Nishimura, offering a rare glimpse into the creative process behind the series.

The books additionally feature a complete guide covering all 39 episodes of the anime, along with storyboards from memorable scenes and interviews with members of the production staff.

Four separate roundtable discussions featuring members of the cast are also included, further expanding the retrospective content assembled for the anniversary release.

Alongside the anniversary book announcement, Bandai Namco Filmworks has also confirmed an encore reissue of the previously released “Mobile New Century Gundam X Blu-ray Memorial Box”.

The Blu-ray collection contains all 39 episodes of the television series and includes audio commentary tracks for six episodes, including Episode 3 and Episode 15.

Additional bonus content includes the original comic “If I’m With You,” created under the supervision of director Shinji Takamatsu, with the story written by Hiroyuki Kawasaki and artwork by Kouichi Tokita.

Pre-orders for both anniversary products opened through A-on STORE, Premium Bandai, and other participating retailers on June 20, 2026.

The “Mobile New Century Gundam X Complete Records Collection A.W. 30th Chronicle” book is scheduled for release on January 26, 2027, priced at ¥14,300 (approx. $99 USD/ £78 GBP), while the “Mobile New Century Gundam X Blu-ray Memorial Box” encore edition will follow on March 26, 2027, priced at ¥57,200 (approx. $395 USD/ £312 GBP).
