Bandai has officially revealed a new real-life replica of one of After War Gundam X’s most iconic items as part of the anime’s ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations.

The reveal came during the August installment of the anniversary program “What Happened After the After War?”, where the G-Controller was confirmed as being in production as part of Bandai’s PROPLICA range.

After War Gundam X originally began airing in April 1996 as the third major alternate-universe Gundam television series following Mobile Fighter G Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.

Its story takes place on an Earth devastated by the mass colony drops that ended the 7th Space War, following Garrod Ran as his attempt to steal the Gundam X brings him together with Tiffa Adill and eventually the crew of the Freeden.

The G-Controller plays a central role in the operation of the GX-9900 Gundam X, functioning as an independent control device for the mobile suit and as an important part of the security surrounding its devastating Satellite Cannon.

That weapon draws microwave energy transmitted from a lunar facility through the Satellite System, giving the Gundam X enough firepower to destroy targets on a scale far beyond conventional mobile suit weaponry.

The newly revealed PROPLICA recreates the G-Controller at a realistic scale, using metallic finishes, transparent components and detailed buttons and moving sections to closely match its appearance in the anime.

Its biggest attraction comes from the electronics inside, with three separate modes designed to recreate dialogue, weapons and the Satellite Cannon sequences rather than limiting the release to a static replica.

“Story Mode” includes newly recorded dialogue based around 39 scenes from Gundam X, with members of the original cast returning to record their lines, including Wataru Takagi as Garrod Ran.

Secret voice clips are also hidden within the mode, adding a few extra interactions for fans who spend time experimenting with the different controls.

“Operation Mode” makes heavier use of the included dedicated stand, effectively turning the G-Controller into a small Gundam X cockpit simulator with synchronized sound, lighting and vibration effects.

Players can activate sequences based around weapons and equipment including the Beam Machine Gun, Beam Sword, Gatling Gun, Divider and G-Bits, giving the controller considerably more functionality than its original anime role would initially suggest.

Five pieces of music are included for these sequences – “Shisen,” “Satellite Cannon,” “Houkou Suru Uchuu,” “DREAMS” and “Resolution”, mixing background music with both of Gundam X’s television opening themes.

“Satellite System Mode” provides the most elaborate recreation, beginning when the controller’s safety mechanism is released and the Satellite Cannon activation process starts.

Dialogue from Tiffa and Garrod accompanies the sound of the Gundam receiving microwave energy, while the LEDs gradually illuminate to represent the system charging.

Once the X-shaped panel turns green, pulling the trigger activates the full Satellite Cannon firing sequence, recreating one of the most recognizable moments associated with the Gundam X.

Bandai has specifically incorporated sequences based on the Satellite Cannon scenes from Episodes 5 and 39, adding another connection to key moments from the original television series.

The G-Controller was not the only Gundam X collectible revealed during the anniversary program, as Bandai also confirmed that the GX-9901-DX Gundam Double X is joining the METAL ROBOT SPIRITS lineup.

Introduced later in the series as Garrod’s new protagonist mobile suit, the Gundam Double X was secretly developed by the New United Nations Earth using technology and data derived from the original Gundam X.

Its design significantly increases the capabilities of its predecessor and replaces the single Satellite Cannon with two Satellite Cannon Mk-II units mounted across its back.

The upgraded microwave reception system allows the Double X to unleash far greater destructive power, with the twin cannon arrangement becoming both its signature weapon and one of the most recognizable visual features of the mobile suit.

A prototype of the upcoming METAL ROBOT SPIRITS release has already been shown, recreating the Double X’s heavy armor and large twin Satellite Cannon Mk-II units with metallic finishes, detailed markings, and the die-cast construction associated with the line.

The display prototype also shows the cannons opened into their firing configuration, which should make the eventual release especially well suited to recreating the Double X’s signature Satellite Cannon poses.

Bandai has only confirmed that the METAL ROBOT SPIRITS Gundam Double X is in development for now, with its final specifications, included accessories, price and release date all due to be announced at a later date.

Both reveals arrive during Gundam X’s 30th anniversary project, which has recently seen the confirmation of a new sequel manga as well as the re-release of the series’ definitive blu-ray collection.
