Countdown begins as Psyren anime set to be officially announced on 15th December

Social media is abuzz with speculation that Toshiaki Iwashiro’s supernatural manga PSYREN is finally receiving an anime adaptation, following the sudden appearance of a mysterious countdown website on Thursday, December 11.
PSYREN was originally serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 2007 to 2010, spanning 16 collected volumes.

The sci-fi thriller follows high school student Ageha Yoshina, who gets dragged into a deadly survival game called “Psyren” while chasing after his missing classmate, Sakurako Amamiya.
Together with other “Psionist” recruits, they must survive in a ruined wasteland inhabited by grotesque monsters known as Tavoo while unraveling the mystery behind the game’s Nemesis Q.

Despite concluding over 15 years ago, the series has maintained a dedicated cult following who have long clamored for an adaptation.
This enduring popularity was highlighted recently when the series was nominated for two consecutive years in the “Manga We Want to See Animated” ranking at AnimeJapan 2025, one of the world’s largest anime events.

It is considered highly irregular for a series that ended so long ago to rank so highly, suggesting that industry producers may have finally taken notice of the intense fan demand.
The new “‘PSYREN’ Official” website currently displays a “COMING SOON” message overlaying a background image of a public phone booth in a park.

The site features visual static noise and a sound button that plays a ringing telephone, adding to the eerie atmosphere that fans of the series will instantly recognize.
As of the time of writing, the website does not yet list specific credits for the original author or Shueisha.

The countdown is scheduled to reach zero on Monday, December 15, at 0:00 (JST), at which point the full details of the project are expected to be revealed.
