Bandai Teases New ZZ Gundam 40th Anniversary Project

Bandai has officially teased a new 40th anniversary project for ZZ Gundam, giving fans the first indication that the milestone will see the release of a range of new figures from their TAMASHII NATIONS brand.
Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ originally aired in 1986 as the direct sequel to Mobile Suit Z Gundam, continuing the Universal Century story after the events of the Gryps Conflict.
The series follows Judau Ashta, a teenage junk dealer living on the Shangri-La colony who becomes involved with the crew of the Argama and eventually takes control of the powerful transformable MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam.

Judau and the newly formed Gundam Team are drawn into the continuing conflict with Neo Zeon, led by Haman Karn, bringing back several characters and Mobile Suits from Zeta Gundam while introducing machines including the ZZ Gundam, Qubeley Mk-II, Hamma-Hamma and Döven Wolf.
The new announcement was made through the official TAMASHII NATIONS X account on September 5, accompanied by a simple “Coming soon” teaser image featuring the Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ and TAMASHII NATIONS branding.

TAMASHII NATIONS covers several of Bandai’s premium finished figure brands, including ROBOT SPIRITS and METAL BUILD, making the teaser particularly interesting for fans hoping to see more of Gundam ZZ’s Mobile Suits receive modern collectible releases.
Bandai has already been putting considerably more focus on Gundam ZZ throughout its anniversary year, with one of the biggest recent reveals being the long-awaited new HG 1/144 Hamma-Hamma Gunpla.

The upcoming model recreates Mashymre Cello’s experimental Neo Zeon Mobile Suit with wired deployable forearms, three-barrel Beam Cannons, and its oversized shield, and is currently scheduled for release in 2027.

The series has also received several anniversary merchandise releases through Bandai’s STRICT-G fashion label, including a collection focused entirely on Haman Karn.

Gundam ZZ will also take a major role in the Gundam Card Game later this year through the upcoming “Stardust Trails [GD06]” booster set, which pairs the series with Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory.

With Bandai now teasing a separate TAMASHII NATIONS project, it appears the 40th anniversary celebrations will continue expanding beyond Gunpla, fashion and cards into premium finished collectibles.

Exactly which Gundam ZZ characters or Mobile Suits will be represented has not yet been confirmed, so any potential ROBOT SPIRITS, METAL BUILD, or other releases remain speculation for now.
Bandai has stated that further details about the Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ 40th anniversary TAMASHII NATIONS products will be revealed at a later date.
