Two Classic Gundam ZZ Gunpla Kits Officially Return as Bandai Announces New Re-Releases
Image by Charlotte DavisBandai has officially announced a new production run for two classic Gunpla kits from Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, giving builders another opportunity to add the popular Neo Zeon mobile suits to their collections.
The returning “HG 1/144 Döven Wolf” and “HG 1/144 Dreissen” recreate two of the anime’s heavily armed machines, with both receiving a fresh production run more than a decade after their original release.

Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ originally aired in 1986 as the direct sequel to Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, continuing the Universal Century story following the devastating Gryps Conflict.

The series follows Judau Ashta, a teenage junk dealer living in the Shangri-La space colony, who becomes involved with the AEUG and eventually takes control of the powerful ZZ Gundam.
His adventures bring him into conflict with Haman Karn’s Neo Zeon forces, which deploy an extensive range of new mobile suits as they attempt to establish control over the Earth Sphere.
Both the Döven Wolf and Dreissen were developed for Neo Zeon’s expanding military, although their designs take very different approaches to combat.
Bandai originally released the two HGUC kits on February 22, 2014, adapting their appearances from Gundam ZZ following earlier releases based on their updated versions from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.

As standard retail kits, they have received numerous reproductions since then, in part due to their continued popularity amongst builders.
The Döven Wolf is one of Neo Zeon’s most heavily armed mass-production mobile suits, combining powerful conventional weapons with a quasi-psycommu system that allows its pilot to control remote weaponry.

The mobile suit is famously associated with the Space Wolf Team, a squadron commanded by Rakan Dahkaran during the closing stages of the conflict.
For the “HG 1/144 Döven Wolf”, Bandai recreates the machine’s original Gundam ZZ appearance, including its green armor, large shoulder equipment, and chest detailing.

Its weapon systems include wire-guided Incom units stored in the backpack, which can be deployed using the supplied lead wires to simulate their remote-controlled attacks.

The kit also reproduces the Döven Wolf’s powerful Mega Launcher configuration, allowing its Beam Rifle to connect with the mobile suit’s chest-mounted equipment to recreate the devastating combined weapon.

Additional accessories include Beam Hands, Beam Sabers, and anti-ship missiles, with the model’s large backpack and extensive armaments making it an imposing addition to any Neo Zeon collection.

The Dreissen takes a different approach, combining the heavily armored appearance of earlier Dom-series mobile suits with improved mobility and a selection of close-range weapons.
Its rounded purple armor and broad proportions reflect that lineage, with red highlights and yellow details recreating the design seen in Gundam ZZ.

The “HG 1/144 Dreissen” includes the mobile suit’s signature Beam Lancer and Beam Tomahawk, alongside three Tri-Blades that can be mounted across its back.

These unusual weapons are designed to detach from the Dreissen and attack opponents independently, giving the machine an additional option during close-range combat.

Bandai has also incorporated interchangeable forearm components that allow builders to recreate the Triple Beam Cannon configuration, with the weapons extending from beneath the Dreissen’s arm armor.

Additional equipment includes a Heat Saber and Giant Bazooka associated with the mobile suit’s later appearance in Gundam Unicorn, offering further display options.
Bandai also recently opened pre-orders for a new Reben-Wolf Gunpla inspired by the Space Wolf Team, adapting the Döven Wolf’s colors and design into a mobile suit from Advance of Zeta Re-Boot.

Pre-orders for the “HG 1/144 Döven Wolf” and “HG 1/144 Dreissen” officially reopened in Japan on October 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM JST through Premium Bandai’s Gundam Base Online Shop.
Both kits are priced at ¥2,640 each (approximately $17 / £13), with orders scheduled to ship in December 2026.

With both kits being standard retail Gunpla kits rather than exclusive releases, collectors may also be able to obtain them through Japanese hobby retailers, such as HobbyLink Japan.
For US collectors, the Döven Wolf has recently received an exclusive restock through Premium Bandai US, where it remains available at the time of writing for $27.
A corresponding US re-release of the Dreissen hasn’t been announced, although international fans may be able to find it through third-party hobby retailers stocking the new Japanese production run.
Given Bandai’s recent decision to restock the Döven Wolf in America, a future Premium Bandai US return for the Dreissen is also possible, although no official plans have been confirmed.
