Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO’s First HG Gunpla Kit Officially Confirmed for December Release
Image by Charlotte DavisBandai has officially opened pre-orders for the first of three Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO Gunpla kits scheduled to reach stores, confirming its release date and full equipment lineup.
The “HG 1/144 Murasame Kai (Early Production Type)” recreates a new experimental version of Orb’s transforming Mobile Suit, with a dark blue color scheme and equipment based on its appearance in the prequel movie.
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO takes place between the events of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY and 2024’s Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, following Shinn Asuka and several returning characters during C.E.74.
The story begins as the international peacekeeping organization COMPASS is being established following the collapse of Gilbert Durandal’s Destiny Plan, with the theft of the Strike Freedom Gundam setting a new conflict in motion.
The original Murasame first appeared in Gundam SEED DESTINY as a transforming Mobile Suit developed by the Orb Union, before receiving an upgraded Murasame Kai version in SEED FREEDOM.
This early-production model was developed before the Murasame Kai entered mass production and is piloted by Mu La Flaga in Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO.
Bandai first revealed the Gunpla during New York Comic Con earlier this month, alongside High Grade models of the Infinite Justice Gundam & Booster Unit and Gouf Ignited Custom.
Image by Charlotte DavisThe kit incorporates Bandai’s SEED Action System for dynamic posing, with a newly sculpted mock-combat rifle among its accessories, alongside a standard beam rifle, beam saber, and shield.
Builders can also convert the machine into its aircraft-like Mobile Armor form by replacing selected components, with two external fuel tanks and dedicated transformation parts included.
The regular Murasame Kai previously received its own High Grade kit in October 2024, with this version offering an alternative design based on the machine’s earlier development.
Bandai Namco Filmworks has also confirmed a January 15, 2027 theatrical release for Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO in Japan, with a North American theatrical release scheduled to follow in February.
The “HG 1/144 Murasame Kai (Early Production Type)” is scheduled for release in Japan during December 2026, with a retail price of ¥2,970 (approximately $19 / £14).
Japanese hobby retailers began accepting pre-orders on October 15, 2026, with Bandai yet to confirm official US release details or availability through channels such as Premium Bandai US.
