Zeta Gundam’s Exclusive Gold-Plated MG Hyaku-Shiki Gunpla Kit Joins Bandai’s Gundam Winter Fest 2026
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam’s golden Hyaku-Shiki has joined Gundam Winter Fest 2026, with a special Gundam Base-exclusive Master Grade now available to US collectors through a rare online release.
The “MG 1/100 THE GUNDAM BASE LIMITED HYAKU-SHIKI Ver.2.0 [MECHANICAL CORE PLATING]” is among more than 200 Gunpla kits and related accessories included in the Premium Bandai US promotion, which temporarily makes several normally store-exclusive Gundam Base models available online.
Hyaku-Shiki originates from the 1985 anime Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, where it was piloted by Quattro Bajeena, the former Zeon ace Char Aznable, as part of the Anti-Earth Union Group (AEUG) during its conflict against the Titans.
Developed by Anaheim Electronics, the golden Mobile Suit was originally intended to become a transformable machine based on the Delta Gundam project, but technical difficulties ultimately led to the development of a more conventional design.
Its golden armor and distinctive head design helped establish the Hyaku-Shiki as one of Zeta Gundam’s most memorable Mobile Suits, fighting alongside Kamille Bidan’s Gundam Mk-II and later the Zeta Gundam itself.
Bandai originally released the Gundam Base-exclusive Master Grade in October 2025, introducing a new type of metallic finish designed to give the Hyaku-Shiki’s famous golden armor greater visual depth.
The kit was initially sold exclusively to registered Gundam Base members in Japan, with the limited release now receiving an opportunity for online purchases through Premium Bandai US.
Based on the standard “MG 1/100 Hyaku-Shiki Ver.2.0” from 2015, the kit uses Bandai’s Mechanical Core Plating technology, which applies a metallic coating to the inner surfaces of specially molded clear armor parts.
Unlike conventional plating that covers the outside of a component, this technique allows light to pass through the transparent plastic before reflecting from the metallic surface beneath, creating a deeper golden shine.
The effect also makes molded details within the armor more visible, adding another layer of mechanical detail to the finished model.
Bandai has previously used the same technique on its Gundam Base-exclusive “RG 1/144 Sazabi [Mechanical Core Plating],” but the Hyaku-Shiki’s golden coloring provides a different interpretation of the finish.
Beneath the specially treated armor, the kit retains the detailed internal frame and extensive articulation of the original Master Grade Ver.2.0, which incorporated movable frame technology developed for the “MG 1/100 Gundam Mk-II Ver.2.0”.
The model also features articulated backpack binders, an opening cockpit hatch and a selection of interchangeable head sensor components, allowing builders to reproduce the different camera-eye appearances introduced in the Zeta Gundam theatrical films.
Its weapon selection includes the Hyaku-Shiki’s Beam Rifle, Clay Bazooka and two Beam Sabers, with both ranged weapons capable of mounting onto the backpack when not in use.
The Beam Sabers can also be stored within the rear waist armor, while an included display adapter allows the finished model to be mounted on a separately sold Action Base.
A miniature figure of Quattro Bajeena is also included, providing an additional display accessory for the Mobile Suit.
Another Gundam Base-exclusive Master Grade from the same anime is also available during Winter Fest, with the “MG 1/100 Zaku Cannon (Z Gundam Ver.)” currently accepting limited-time pre-orders through Premium Bandai US.
That kit recreates the Earth Federation-operated Zaku Cannon seen in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, featuring its alternative blue, purple, and gray coloring alongside the machine’s signature shoulder-mounted cannon.
Gundam Winter Fest 2026 runs from November 6 at 5:00 PM PST until November 30 at 11:59 PM PST, with a large selection of Gunpla kits, Gundam Base limited models, and building accessories available throughout the promotional period.
The “MG 1/100 THE GUNDAM BASE LIMITED HYAKU-SHIKI Ver.2.0 [MECHANICAL CORE PLATING]” is currently in stock through Premium Bandai US for $210, although quantities may be limited and the kit could sell out before Gundam Winter Fest concludes.
The kit also qualifies for Premium Bandai US’s standard free-shipping offer on eligible orders over $99, which is available independently of the Winter Fest promotion.
