Sanrio mascots get a tropical makeover for new Okinawa exclusive merch

A new line of regionally exclusive merchandise featuring the popular Sanrio Characters has been released in Okinawa, Japan.

This “gotochi,” or local, collection is themed around the tropical prefecture and is available only at select souvenir shops and other retailers in Okinawa.

“Gotochi” merchandise is a popular and long-standing part of Japanese travel culture, where famous characters are featured on items that can only be purchased in a specific region, making them a special memento for tourists.

The design for this new collection gives the Sanrio Characters a unique, Okinawan-style makeover.

The characters are shown with a suntan and are wearing hibiscus flowers, a symbol of the tropical islands.

The new product line features a range of plush toys, accessories, and other souvenir-style items.

Many of the products are available in five different versions, each featuring a specific character.

The full lineup of new items is as follows:

Two types of bags will also be available, with their designs will be revealed at a later date.

  • Eco Bag: ¥1,320

The new collection is available for purchase at a variety of retailers in Okinawa, including Okinawaya Honten, Nanpou Shoji, OKINAWA Bunkaya Zakka-ten, Yunagi, Haibisukasu, Ryukyu MARKET, and the Hotel Okinawa with Sanrio Characters.
