New Official Ghost in the Shell Watch Turns Traditional Japanese Craftsmanship Into Wearable Art

Ghost in the Shell is receiving an eye-catching new collector’s watch, with GARRACK revealing a premium Japanese-made mechanical timepiece inspired by the series’ iconic Fuchikoma thinking tank.
Ghost in the Shell began as Masamune Shirow’s groundbreaking manga in 1989 before evolving into one of the most influential cyberpunk franchises ever created, spawning acclaimed anime films, television series and a live-action Hollywood adaptation, with a brand-new TV anime, The Ghost in the Shell, having recently began airing worldwide on Amazon Prime.

Created as a collaboration between GARRACK and Science SARU’s new The Ghost in the Shell anime, the new mechanical watch celebrates the franchise by transforming Fuchikoma into an intricate wearable design that blends traditional Japanese craftsmanship with modern watchmaking.

GARRACK has previously released a number of watches based on popular anime series, with an extensive Demon Slayer collection and a recent Evangelion collection being particular highlights.

The centerpiece of the new “The Ghost in the Shell” watch is its remarkable dial, where Fuchikoma has been recreated using the centuries-old Japanese decorative technique known as raden, which uses the iridescent inner layer of seashells to produce vibrant colors that shift depending on the viewing angle.

Each dial is individually handcrafted by skilled artisans, ensuring that every watch develops its own unique appearance through the natural variations found in the shell material, making no two pieces exactly alike.

The use of raden was inspired by the “Shell” referenced in the series’ title and its themes surrounding artificial bodies, with the shimmering shell surface providing a fitting visual interpretation of Ghost in the Shell’s distinctive aesthetic.

Looking closer at the dial reveals even more references to the AI-powered Fuchikoma, with the vehicle shown from the front while its right manipulator arm aligns with the watch’s open-heart window to create the impression that the arm is actively moving.

The hour markers have been designed to resemble Fuchikoma’s wheels, while the watch hands echo the shape of its mechanical arms, allowing almost every visible component to reference the iconic support vehicle.

Turning the watch over reveals a transparent exhibition case back featuring the official Ghost in the Shell: The Ghost in the Shell logo, offering a clear view of the automatic movement inside.

Powering the watch is a Japanese-made MIYOTA automatic movement, complemented by a leather strap and 5 ATM water resistance for everyday wear.

The craftsmanship behind the dial comes from fourth-generation artisan Takeshi Musashikawa of Musashikawa Workshop, a studio established in 1910 that continues the centuries-old traditions of Takaoka lacquerware, one of Japan’s officially recognized traditional crafts.

Creating the Fuchikoma design required one of the workshop’s most technically demanding raden projects to date, with shell pieces polished to around 0.1 mm thick before being individually colored, precisely cut, applied by hand to a lacquered dial and finally coated to produce the finished artwork.

Because natural shell is used throughout the process, every completed watch displays subtle differences in color, pattern and reflected light, giving each owner a truly one-of-a-kind collectible.

The “The Ghost in the Shell S-MEISTER Mechanical Watch Fuchikoma Model” is priced at ¥79,200 (approx. $540 USD / £395 GBP).

Pre-orders will open through the official World Wide Watch online store and select third party retailers on July 17, 2026.

General sales and shipping are scheduled to commence from July 31, 2026.
