Yu-Gi-Oh!’s First Official LEGO Set Design Confirmed as Fan Building Contest Winner Announced
Image by James RichardsonYu-Gi-Oh is officially getting its first LEGO set, with a huge fan-designed model of Exodia the Forbidden One selected to become an official LEGO Ideas release.
Created by builder Step_on_a_Brick, “The Heart of the Cards – Exodia” recreates one of the most memorable moments from the beginning of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, with Exodia rising behind oversized cards as Yami Yugi stands in front.
The original fan submission uses 1,913 pieces and builds both Exodia and Yami Yugi as articulated brick figures rather than relying on standard LEGO minifigures.
Three oversized brick-built cards form part of the display beneath Exodia, creating the impression of the legendary monster emerging directly from the cards as it is summoned.
Within Yu-Gi-Oh itself, Exodia holds a unique place in the card game because assembling all five pieces of the Forbidden One in your hand immediately wins the Duel.
That mechanic became one of the anime’s earliest iconic moments when Yugi completed Exodia against Seto Kaiba, turning what appeared to be an impossible Duel into one of the franchise’s defining victories.
LEGO selected the design through its “It’s Time To Duel!” Ideas challenge, which asked fans to create models inspired specifically by the Duelist Kingdom and Battle City sections of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters.
A total of 264 submissions entered the competition before LEGO narrowed them down to five finalists and handed the final decision over to a public fan vote.
When the finalists were revealed earlier this year, Exodia faced four very different designs based around some of Yu-Gi-Oh’s other most recognizable monsters, characters and artifacts.
Those included DarkAnimal’s Slifer the Sky Dragon wrapped around a Duel Disk, Moccermommy’s duel spanning Yugi and Kaiba’s modern and ancient rivalries, Brian b59124’s Blue-Eyes White Dragon display and Brick_flex’s Millennium Puzzle model featuring Yugi, Kaiba, Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
Winning the vote now moves Step_on_a_Brick’s concept into development with the LEGO Ideas design team, meaning the retail model will be refined before it reaches stores and may differ from the 1,913-piece fan submission shown so far.
The creator will also receive the standard LEGO Ideas reward of one percent of the finished set’s net sales, complimentary copies and credit for the original design.
Yu-Gi-Oh has had plenty of other major releases during its 30th anniversary year, including special World Championship 2026 cards that gave Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and Fusion newly created ukiyo-e artwork.
More recently, Yugi and Kaiba also became the focus of a new Crocs collaboration built around the Millennium Puzzle, Blue-Eyes White Dragon and other familiar imagery from the series.

The official Yu-Gi-Oh LEGO Ideas set is currently expected to arrive sometime in 2027, with more details to be announced once LEGO completes its redesign of the winning submission.
