KFC Japan Announces New Uma Musume Collaboration

Uma Musume: Pretty Derby is heading to KFC Japan for a new collaboration titled “Uma Musume no Umauma Kentucky,” with a newly revealed visual offering the first look at the campaign.

Created by Cygames, Uma Musume: Pretty Derby is a multimedia franchise centered around girls inspired by real-life racehorses, following their lives as students and athletes pursuing success on the racetrack.

The collaboration visual gives several familiar Uma Musume a KFC-themed makeover, with Red Desire and Buena Vista fronting the campaign in red-and-white striped outfits that reference the restaurant chain’s signature colors.

Gold Ship takes the theme even further by trading her usual racing attire for a white suit inspired by KFC founder Colonel Sanders.

Though the collaboration has been confirmed, KFC Japan and Cygames have yet to confirm the specific food menu, merchandise or customer bonuses that will be offered.

KFC has been increasingly willing to pair its menu with major anime properties across Asia, with KFC Hong Kong launching an Evangelion campaign on July 23 that combines a themed spicy chicken burger with collectibles and restaurant photo opportunities celebrating the anime’s 30th anniversary.

That promotion followed earlier KFC Hong Kong partnerships with Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz and Attack on Titan: The Final Season, both of which used exclusive merchandise and transformed restaurant spaces to create experiences that extended beyond the food itself.

While there is no confirmation that the Uma Musume campaign will follow the same format, the early character artwork suggests KFC Japan is preparing more than a simple menu tie-in.

The full announcement is scheduled to arrive during “Paka Live TV! #5,” the official Uma Musume: Pretty Derby broadcast airing at 8:00 PM JST on July 29, where fans can expect a clearer look at what the collaboration will include.
