Kei Mochizuki-Designed Hatsune Miku Figure Officially Revived 2 Years After Crowdfunding Failure
Image by Charlotte DavisA Hatsune Miku figure first proposed as part of a crowdfunding campaign that fell short of its production goal is finally becoming a reality, with Good Smile Company revealing its first painted prototype more than two years later.
The “G.S.Collection Hatsune Miku ART OF MIKU Ver.” is based on the original “Art Miku” design created by illustrator Kei Mochizuki for the ART OF MIKU contemporary art project.

The figure was displayed at Wonder Festival 2026 Shanghai, which is taking place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from October 3 through October 4.
ART OF MIKU originally launched in 2024 as a contemporary art project exploring Hatsune Miku and the other Piapro Characters through the work of established artists working across a range of styles and disciplines.

Its first major exhibition opened in Sapporo before moving to Shibuya PARCO, where around 40 works created by 16 groups of contemporary artists were displayed and sold.
Kei Mochizuki created the separate “Art Miku” illustration specifically for the project, with the design subsequently appearing across merchandise including posters, acrylic goods, apparel and other limited releases.

Mochizuki is known for an illustration style built around sharp character designs and striking use of color, with previous work including projects connected to LOOPERS, Project:;COLD, Fate/Grand Order and Touken Ranbu.
The concept of turning Mochizuki’s design into a scale figure was first discussed more than two years before its appearance at Wonder Festival 2026 Shanghai.

A crowdfunding campaign launched alongside the original ART OF MIKU exhibition stated that a scale figure based on “Art Miku” would be planned for sale if supporters raised ¥5 million.
The campaign ultimately ended on January 31, 2024, with ¥4,463,639 raised from 154 supporters, reaching 89% of the target and falling short of the threshold originally set for the figure.
Despite that goal not being reached, Good Smile has now returned to the idea with a completed painted prototype that officially brings Mochizuki’s design into three dimensions.
ART OF MIKU has continued to expand since its original Japanese exhibitions, with subsequent events including the Autumn Fair in 2024 and a major Taipei exhibition held during August and September 2026.

Good Smile also revealed the “POP UP PARADE SP Hatsune Miku GLOOMY Ver.” at Wonder Festival 2026 Shanghai, transforming LAM’s GLOOMY collaboration design into a larger figure accompanied by a miniature GLOOMY bear.

A second GLOOMY release was shown alongside it in the form of the “Nendoroid Hatsune Miku GLOOMY Ver.,” which recreates the same bear-inspired design in the approximately 10 cm-tall proportions of the Nendoroid line.

During the course of 2026, Good Smile has also revealed a large selection of new Hatsune Miku and other virtual singer figures, adding several more releases across its Nendoroid, POP UP PARADE and scale figure ranges.

The ART OF MIKU figure also joins Good Smile’s growing G.S.Collection lineup, which includes the “G.S.Collection [SC] Hatsune Miku Symphony 2025: Sapporo Concert Ver.” based on artwork created for Miku’s orchestral concert series.

The “G.S.Collection Hatsune Miku ART OF MIKU Ver.” is now in production, although its price, scale, dimensions, sculptor, pre-order date, and release window have yet to be announced.
