Sailor Moon’s legendary Rainbow Moon Chalice PROPLICA is officially returning more than ten years after its original release, with Bandai giving one of the anime’s most important transformation items a premium new finish.

The newly announced “PROPLICA Rainbow Moon Chalice -Brilliant Color Edition-” is a revised version of Bandai’s original 2016 replica and will offer an opportunity for a new generation of fans to add it to their collection.

Bandai’s PROPLICA line specializes in recreating iconic items from anime and other entertainment franchises as high-quality replicas aimed at adult collectors, often incorporating working lights, sounds and other features inspired by their original appearances.

The Rainbow Moon Chalice, also known as the Holy Grail, first appeared in the 1994 anime Sailor Moon S, when the three Talismans belonging to Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune and Sailor Pluto were brought together.

These powerful items, the Space Sword, Deep Aqua Mirror and Garnet Orb, summoned the legendary chalice, allowing Usagi Tsukino to transform into Super Sailor Moon for the first time.

For the new Brilliant Color Edition, Bandai has concentrated on updating the Rainbow Moon Chalice’s appearance, using newly formulated gold and red plating to give the replica a brighter, more luxurious finish.

The crescent moon and heart decorations on the front have also received revised coloring designed to complement the updated metallic surfaces, giving the design a different appearance from the 2016 version.

The original PROPLICA Rainbow Moon Chalice measured approximately 17 cm tall and featured an opening lid that revealed an illuminated Legendary Silver Crystal, complete with multicolored lighting effects.

It also included transformation music, sound effects and newly recorded Sailor Moon dialogue, allowing fans to recreate Usagi’s transformation into Super Sailor Moon.

Bandai has confirmed that the new Brilliant Color Edition retains the same background music, sound effects and voice recordings as the 2016 release, making its updated finish the main attraction for anyone who already owns the original.

This is not the first time Bandai has revisited one of its older Sailor Moon replicas using the Brilliant Color treatment, with the PROPLICA Moon Stick receiving a similar update in 2024 that introduced new gold plating and revised coloring.

The Moon Stick was also recently announced for another revival through Bandai’s new Resparkle series, which takes a different direction by recreating the appearance and features of the original Sailor Moon toys from the 1990s.

Alongside the Rainbow Moon Chalice, Bandai has announced another new PROPLICA release based on Sailor Moon’s Starry Sky Music Box, the heart-shaped locket associated with Usagi and Mamoru’s relationship in the original anime.

The new “PROPLICA Starry Sky Music Box” features a rotating crescent moon and plays a music-box arrangement of the original anime’s opening theme, “Moonlight Densetsu,” alongside newly recorded dialogue from Sailor Moon voice actress Kotono Mitsuishi.
