Bandai is finally bringing Sailor Moon’s iconic Star Locket to its PROPLICA collector line, 12 years after first revealing plans to recreate the famous music box from the original anime.

The newly announced “PROPLICA Starry Sky Music Box” revisits a project first shown in 2014, introducing a completely redesigned replica of the golden keepsake associated with Usagi Tsukino and Mamoru Chiba’s relationship.

Bandai originally displayed a PROPLICA concept of the Star Locket at a TAMASHII NATIONS event in 2014, but fans have had to wait more than a decade for the manufacturer to return to the project with a newly developed version.

The announcement is a long-awaited addition to Bandai’s PROPLICA line, which specializes in recreating items from anime and other entertainment franchises as high-quality replicas aimed at adult collectors, often incorporating working lights, sounds and other features.

The Star Locket played an important role in the original 1992 Sailor Moon anime, connecting Usagi and Mamoru to their past lives as Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion.

Its significance became especially clear in Episode 35, “Returning Memories: Usagi and Mamoru’s Past,” which revealed more about their relationship during the Moon Kingdom’s Silver Millennium and the events that brought them together.

The locket’s familiar melody later became important in helping Mamoru recover his memories after being brainwashed by Queen Beryl, making it one of the most personal items associated with the couple’s story.

For the new PROPLICA release, Bandai has developed an entirely new sculpt based on the locket’s appearances in the anime, carefully studying individual scenes to recreate its dimensions at approximately 1:1 scale.

The replica features a star-shaped body with soft, rounded curves, finished in specially formulated gold plating developed through multiple rounds of testing to reproduce the appearance of the original design.

Its central dial takes inspiration from the version seen in Episode 35, incorporating a starry background and decorative gold details.

Opening the lid activates the music box, causing the crescent moon at its center to rotate while a music-box arrangement of “Moonlight Densetsu,” the original Sailor Moon anime’s opening theme, begins to play.

Bandai has also recorded new dialogue from Kotono Mitsuishi, the original Japanese voice actress of Usagi Tsukino and Sailor Moon, with multiple voice clips planned for the finished replica.

The Star Locket has appeared in other official merchandise over the years, but the new PROPLICA announcement marks a return to the ambitious collector’s replica first teased in 2014, now featuring an updated design and additional details inspired by the original anime.

Bandai has also been revisiting older Sailor Moon toys through its recently announced Moon Stick -Resparkle-, the first product in a new series dedicated to recreating the appearance and features of the original toys released during the 1990s.

Alongside the Starry Sky Music Box, Bandai has revealed the “PROPLICA Rainbow Moon Chalice -Brilliant Color Edition-,” a revised version of the premium replica originally released in 2016.

The updated Rainbow Moon Chalice introduces newly developed gold and red plating, along with revised coloring for its decorative details, while retaining the music, sound effects and character dialogue from the original release.

Both new PROPLICA replicas will receive their first public displays at TAMASHII NATION 2026, taking place in Akihabara, Tokyo, from November 13 to November 15, 2026.
