Sailor Moon’s Iconic Moon Stick Returns in Nostalgic New Replica Series
Image by James RichardsonOne of Sailor Moon’s most iconic items is officially returning, with Bandai reviving the original Moon Stick as the first release in a completely new range of collectibles aimed at adult fans.
The newly announced “Moon Stick -Resparkle-” takes its inspiration directly from the original Sailor Moon toy released in 1992, with Bandai promising to respect both its sculpt and the gimmicks that helped make it a major hit during the anime’s original run.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon began as Naoko Takeuchi’s manga in 1991 before becoming one of the defining magical girl anime of the 1990s, following Usagi Tsukino as she discovers her identity as Sailor Moon and fights alongside the other Sailor Guardians.
The Moon Stick is one of the defining items from that earliest period of the story, becoming Sailor Moon’s weapon during the original anime and allowing her to perform the “Moon Healing Escalation” technique.
It later becomes even more important after the Legendary Silver Crystal is incorporated into it, directly connecting the weapon with Usagi’s identity as Princess Serenity and one of the most important objects in the entire series.
The new release also introduces “Resparkle,” a completely new TAMASHII NATIONS brand created specifically around recreating historic Sailor Moon toys for adults who either owned the originals or grew up wanting them.
That gives Resparkle a slightly different purpose from simply producing modern replicas of props seen in the anime, as Bandai is specifically looking back at the physical toys that accompanied the original TV series and updating them for today’s collectors.
The Moon Stick is an especially fitting place to begin, as the original 1992 toy was released during the first year of the Sailor Moon anime and became one of the defining pieces of merchandise associated with its early success.
Bandai has revisited the Moon Stick several times since then, including the PROPLICA version released in 2014, which was created as a near full-size collector replica with lights, newly recorded Sailor Moon dialogue and a removable Legendary Silver Crystal.
That release later returned as the “PROPLICA Moon Stick -Brilliant Color Edition-” in 2024, introducing revised sculpting, new gold plating and updated coloring while retaining the sound and lighting features from the earlier version.
Resparkle appears to take a more nostalgic direction by looking back specifically at the appearance and play features of the original 1992 toy, potentially giving longtime fans a very different reason to revisit an item that has already received several premium recreations.
The first physical example of the “Moon Stick -Resparkle-” is currently being displayed publicly at Tokyo Toy Show 2026, where it can be seen at the Bandai and BANDAI SPIRITS booth during the August 29 and 30 event.
Its reveal also comes during a particularly active period for Sailor Moon collectibles based on items from the series, with Bandai recently launching the new “Miracle Romance Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Multi Carry Lip & Cheek”.
That range turns the Transformation Brooch, Crystal Star Compact and Cosmic Heart Compact into portable lip and cheek cosmetics, continuing the long-running trend of giving adult fans functional versions of the transformation items they grew up seeing Usagi use throughout the anime.
Bandai has not yet announced the price, release date or ordering details for the “Moon Stick -Resparkle-,” with further information currently promised at a later date.
With the Moon Stick already confirmed as only the first Resparkle release, the creation of an entire brand around Sailor Moon’s historic toys also opens the door for more transformation items and weapons from the original anime to receive similar revivals in the future.
