Good Smile Company has officially announced a new Hatsune Miku scale figure based on an adorable sheep-themed design created by illustrator ASK.

The figure was announced at Wonder Festival 2026 Shanghai, which is taking place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from October 3 through October 4.

The “Year of the Sheep” name refers to 未, the eighth animal in the traditional East Asian zodiac cycle, with 2027 marking the next year represented by the sheep, goat, or ram depending on regional interpretation.

Chinese Lunar New Year will begin on February 6, 2027, making the timing of Good Smile’s new Miku announcement particularly appropriate ahead of the upcoming zodiac year.

The “Hatsune Miku Year of the Sheep Ver.” will transform the newly revealed artwork into a full scale figure, although Good Smile has so far only shown the illustration that the upcoming release will be based on.

ASK’s illustration gives Miku a heavily sheep-inspired appearance while retaining the virtual singer at the center of the design.

A pair of curled horns rises from her head, while her outfit includes a heavily ruffled dress designed to resemble the soft layers of sheep’s wool.

The sheep theme extends beyond Miku herself, with the artwork also placing an adorable sheep companion alongside her that is expected to become part of the finished figure.

Good Smile has not yet shown a sculpted or painted prototype, so details such as the finished pose, base, scale ratio, and exactly how the more elaborate parts of ASK’s illustration will be recreated in three dimensions remain unknown.

Hatsune Miku has frequently been reinterpreted through artwork drawing on traditional and fantasy-inspired Asian themes, giving figure manufacturers considerable freedom to move away from her familiar original costume.

Good Smile opened pre-orders earlier this year for the “Hatsune Miku Han Gong Qiu Yue Ver.,” a 1/7-scale figure based on artwork by Rella that dresses Miku in an elaborate design inspired by traditional Chinese aesthetics.

Kaiyodo has also explored Chinese mythology through its recently revealed “Hatsune Miku Qinglong Ver.,” which transforms Miku into an interpretation of the Azure Dragon for another large-scale figure based on original artwork.

The Year of the Sheep figure was only one of several new virtual singer releases unveiled by Good Smile at Wonder Festival 2026 Shanghai.

Good Smile revealed the first painted prototype for the “G.S.Collection Hatsune Miku ART OF MIKU Ver.,” finally reviving Kei Mochizuki’s Art Miku figure project more than two years after its original crowdfunding campaign fell short of the goal set for its production.

Kasane Teto also received a new premium release at the event, with the painted prototype for the Kieed-designed “G.S.Collection Kasane Teto Punk Style” shown publicly for the first time.

LAM’s “GLOOMY meets Hatsune Miku” artwork is becoming the “POP UP PARADE SP Hatsune Miku GLOOMY Ver.,” which pairs the bear-inspired version of Miku with a miniature GLOOMY figure.

Good Smile also displayed the first painted prototype for the smaller “Nendoroid Hatsune Miku GLOOMY Ver.,” recreating the same pink bear-inspired design in the approximately 10 cm-tall proportions of the Nendoroid line.
