SEGA Launches New Sonic the Hedgehog Heelys Collab Starring Sonic and Amy Rose
Image by Charlotte DavisSEGA has teamed up with Heelys for a new official Sonic the Hedgehog footwear collection starring Sonic and Amy Rose.
The limited-edition “Sonic the Hedgehog x Heelys” collection gives both characters their own version of the brand’s Gio sneakers, combining character artwork and colors with Heelys’ signature built-in wheels.

Heelys is the footwear brand best known for sneakers with removable wheels fitted into the heels, allowing wearers to switch between walking and rolling by changing their balance.
The concept was created by founder Roger Adams in 1999 before Heelys launched in 2000, and the brand has since expanded its wheeled footwear into collaborations with franchises including Hello Kitty and Minecraft.

SEGA of America Vice President of Licensing and Partnerships Alexander Gomez said the collaboration offered a natural way to bring Sonic’s speed together with Heelys, while the footwear brand says fans had been requesting an official Sonic collection for years.
Sonic’s design uses a blue, black, and yellow color scheme centered around his familiar appearance, with large character artwork printed across the side of the shoe and yellow ring graphics wrapping around the heel.

Amy receives a pink and red version of the same Gio silhouette, replacing Sonic’s graphics with artwork of Amy and adding a pattern of stars and other character-inspired details across the upper.

Both versions use a mixed-material nylon and canvas upper with perforated sections around the toe for ventilation, alongside padded collars and tongues designed to make them more comfortable for everyday wear.
A low-profile rubber wheel is built into each heel and paired with ABEC 5 bearings, while the shoes can also be worn as regular sneakers by removing the wheels and inserting the supplied plugs.

Sonic has already inspired several recent footwear collaborations, including an extremely limited Timberland collection that even depicted him wearing the brand’s famous Yellow Boots.

More recently, SEGA partnered with Balenciaga for a luxury Sonic fashion collection that swapped his usual red shoes for the fashion house’s chunky Jet sneakers in its collaboration artwork.

The limited-edition “Sonic the Hedgehog x Heelys” collection is now available through the official Heelys US online store, with both the Sonic and Amy Rose Gio sneakers priced at $70 per pair.
