Good Smile Reveals First Painted Prototype for New Kasane Teto Punk Style Statue
Image by Charlotte DavisGood Smile Company has officially revealed the first painted prototype for a new Kasane Teto figure built around a punk-inspired design by illustrator Kieed.
The “G.S.Collection Kasane Teto Punk Style” brings the alternate Teto appearance into Good Smile’s higher-end figure range, with Kieed credited for the original illustration and Oka Masaaki handling the sculpt.

The figure was displayed at Wonder Festival 2026 Shanghai, which is taking place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from October 3 through October 4, with the painted prototype providing the first look at how Kieed’s artwork has been translated into three dimensions.

The Punk Style design moves away from Teto’s standard outfit in favor of a darker alternative-fashion appearance while retaining her instantly recognizable red twin-drill hairstyle.

Kasane Teto originally appeared in 2008 as an April Fools’ character created by users of the Japanese message board 2channel, where she was initially presented as a fake new Vocaloid.

The character quickly developed a following of her own and was subsequently given an official UTAU voicebank using samples provided by voice actress Mayo Oyamano, allowing her to develop from an internet joke into a genuine virtual singer.

Teto received one of the biggest updates in her history in 2023 with the launch of Kasane Teto AI for Synthesizer V, introducing a modern AI-powered voice database and helping the character reach an entirely new generation of music creators and listeners.

Her renewed popularity has also produced a rapidly expanding figure lineup, with Good Smile opening pre-orders earlier this year for a “Nendoroid Kasane Teto Mesmerizer Ver.” based on her appearance alongside Hatsune Miku in 32ki’s hugely popular “Mesmerizer” music video.

The Punk Style figure is being produced through G.S.Collection, the Good Smile line used for more elaborate character figures that sit outside ranges such as Nendoroid and POP UP PARADE.

Good Smile also revealed the “G.S.Collection Hatsune Miku ART OF MIKU Ver.” at Wonder Festival 2026 Shanghai, finally turning Kei Mochizuki’s Art Miku design into a figure more than two years after an earlier crowdfunding campaign fell short of the goal originally set for its production.

Another Shanghai reveal saw LAM’s “GLOOMY meets Hatsune Miku” artwork transformed into the “POP UP PARADE SP Hatsune Miku GLOOMY Ver.,” complete with a miniature GLOOMY bear that can be displayed in front of Miku.

Good Smile also displayed the first painted prototype for the “Nendoroid Hatsune Miku GLOOMY Ver.,” recreating the same bear-inspired design in the approximately 10 cm-tall proportions of the Nendoroid line.

The “G.S.Collection Kasane Teto Punk Style” is currently in production, although its price, scale, dimensions, pre-order date, and release window have yet to be announced.
