From Far Away Anime Adaptation Coming in 2026

A television anime adaptation of the classic shojo manga From Far Away by Kyoko Hikawa has been officially announced for production in 2026.
The project serves to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the original series, which first began its serialization in September 1991.

On March 18, 2026, an official website and social media presence were launched to share the news with fans alongside a special promotional video and a new illustration by Hikawa.
Director Noriyuki Abe, known for his work on prominent series such as Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho, has been tapped to lead the production of the new anime.
The original manga concluded its run in October 2002 after being serialized in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume Comics and eventually reaching over 4 million copies in circulation across 14 volumes.
Viz Media, the publisher of the English version, describes the plot as a fantasy adventure following a schoolgirl named Noriko who is transported to a strange world.
In this new land, Noriko meets a man named Izark and discovers she is linked to an ancient prophecy regarding a dark evil residing within him.
The announcement follows other recent retro shojo revivals, such as the Red River anime update shared on March 10, 2026.
While specific release dates and cast members have not been named, additional production details are expected to be confirmed at a later date.
