Evangelion’s New $1200 Asuka and Rei Japanese Doll Statues Feature Real Kimonos
FuRyu’s premium F:NEX figure brand and historic Japanese doll maker Yoshitoku have officially opened pre-orders for two Japanese doll figures based on Asuka Shikinami Langley and Rei Ayanami from Rebuild of Evangelion.
Rebuild of Evangelion is a four-film reimagining of Neon Genesis Evangelion that follows Shinji Ikari and his fellow Eva pilots through a dramatically altered version of the original anime’s story, with Asuka and Rei remaining two of the franchise’s most recognizable faces.
Created to celebrate Evangelion’s 30th anniversary, the figures took around two years to develop and combine F:NEX’s large-scale character sculpting with Yoshitoku’s experience producing traditional Japanese dolls.
The completed painted prototypes made their public debut at Wonder Festival 2026 Summer as part of FuRyu’s F:NEX exhibition at Makuhari Messe.
Both 1/4 scale figures use poses inspired by Japanese dance, giving Asuka a more energetic stance while Rei is posed with quieter and more restrained body language.
Each figure wears a two-layer kimono made from genuine fabric rather than sculpted material, with the garments individually dressed around the body to create the layered construction and weight associated with traditional Japanese dolls.
The colors take direct inspiration from Asuka and Rei’s respective plug suits, while the gold brocade obi features hexagonal patterns designed to resemble an A.T. Field.
Coordinated fabrics and complementary poses also allow the two figures to form a unified arrangement when placed alongside one another.
Doll artist Ayumi Uyama created the original costume designs, Kyoto textile company Nishimura Shoji Shoten helped produce the kimono fabric, and Nishijin-based workshop Morisan supplied the gold brocade used for the obi.
Sculptor Kade Taka of Royce Entertainment handled the figures’ forms, B_Sachi completed the coloring, and Yoshitoku was responsible for producing and dressing the costumes.
The “Rebuild of Evangelion Yoshitoku x F:NEX Asuka Shikinami Langley -Japanese Doll- 1/4 Scale Figure,” priced at ¥198,000 (approx. $1,210 USD / £910 GBP), stands approximately 44 cm tall and places Asuka in an energetic backward-leaning pose with her arms extended beside the flowing edges of her kimono.
Her bright red kimono draws directly from the colors of her plug suit, while the sweeping sleeves, exposed wrists and subtle smile adapt Asuka’s confident presence to the more formal styling of a traditional Japanese doll.
The “Rebuild of Evangelion Yoshitoku x F:NEX Rei Ayanami -Japanese Doll- 1/4 Scale Figure,” also priced at ¥198,000 (approx. $1,210 USD / £910 GBP), measures approximately 44.5 cm tall and presents Rei in a composed pose with one sleeve wrapped around her left arm and concealing her hand.
Rei’s kimono combines the blue and silver shades associated with the accents on her plug suit with red and salmon-pink accents across the fabric, creating a distinct palette that remains visually coordinated with Asuka’s design.
A FURYU HOBBY MALL-exclusive two-figure set, priced at ¥396,000 (approx. $2,420 USD / £1,820 GBP), includes both Asuka and Rei alongside a decorative folding screen designed to complete the paired arrangement.
Pre-orders are available through FURYU HOBBY MALL, where customers in the US can place eligible international orders through its WorldShopping service, with proxy, handling, and international shipping fees charged separately.
The pre-order period is scheduled to close on September 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM JST, with the individual figures and exclusive two-figure set expected to ship in July 2027.
