Street Fighter movie expected to star Jason Momoa and Roman Reigns

The new live-action film adaptation of CAPCOM’s iconic Street Fighter game series is rapidly taking shape, with entertainment news website Deadline reporting on Wednesday that a four actors are in negotiations to join the cast.

The rumored cast members include actors Andrew Koji (Snake Eyes, Warrior), Jason Momoa (Aquaman, Game of Thrones), Noah Centineo (Warfare, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before), and WWE professional wrestler Roman Reigns.
Legendary Entertainment acquired the film and television rights to Street Fighter in April 2023, signaling a renewed push to bring the franchise back to the silver screen.

The project initially had brothers Danny and Michael Philippou attached to direct, but they later departed to focus on their film “Bring Her Back.”
The directorial reins have since been passed to Kitao Sakurai, known for his work on “The Eric Andre Show” and the Netflix film “Bad Trip”.
While plot details remain under wraps, speculative reports from various sources, indicate which characters the actors have been selected to play.
Roman Reigns

Reigns, whose real name is Leati Joseph Anoaʻi, is a multi-time WWE Champion and has prior acting experience in films like Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.

He is rumored to be in talks to portray Akuma, the powerful and intimidating antagonist known for his dark aura and relentless fighting style.
Jason Momoa

The Aquaman actor is reportedly being eyed for the role of Blanka, the wild, green-skinned, and electrically charged fighter from the Amazon.

Momoa’s imposing physical presence and past roles suggest he could easily embody the character’s feral nature.
Andrew Koji

Koji is said to be in line for one of the series’ central protagonists, Ryu.

Koji’s background in martial arts-heavy roles makes him a fitting choice for the iconic character.
Noah Centineo

Centineo is rumored to be in discussions to play Ken Masters, Ryu’s best friend, rival, and fellow practitioner of the Ansatsuken fighting style.

Centineo has gained prominence in recent years for his roles in romantic comedies and action films.
The journey to the big screen for this Street Fighter adaptation has seen some scheduling shifts. The film was initially planned for a March 20th, 2026, release.
This upcoming project will mark the third live-action theatrical release for the Street Fighter series.

The franchise’s cinematic history began with the 1994 film Street Fighter, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, which, despite mixed critical reception, has gained a cult following.
A second attempt, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, released in 2009, was largely panned by critics and audiences alike.

The Street Fighter intellectual property has seen success in other animated adaptations, including the critically acclaimed Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie from 1994, which is widely regarded as a faithful and exciting portrayal of the game’s universe.

This update regarding the upcoming movie arrives as CAPCOM have announced a crossover between their Street Fighter and Monster Hunter series.

The crossover will see Akuma star in new in-game event in Monster Hunter WIlds while Chun-Li and Cammy costumes will be added to the game as paid DLC.
