Nissin is taking one of Japan’s most iconic instant meals in a completely new direction with the launch of the first cold water-only Cup Noodles in the brand’s 55-year history.

Cup Noodles first launched in 1971 as the world’s first cup noodle product and has since become one of the most recognizable instant food brands worldwide, with countless flavors released over the decades.

As hotter summers continue to drive demand for chilled meals, Nissin spent five years developing a completely new way to enjoy its signature noodles without using boiling water.

The result is the new Cold Cup Noodles lineup, which has been specially designed to be prepared using refrigerated water in just five minutes.

At the heart of the new range is Nissin’s patented Cold Rehydrate manufacturing process, allowing the specially developed noodles to soften in cold water while retaining a firm, smooth texture.

Unlike traditional instant noodles, there is no need to boil water or add ice, making the new products an easy option for staying cool during the summer months.

The launch includes two different flavors designed to suit different tastes.

The Cold Cup Noodles Spicy Kimchi flavor combines a rich chicken-based broth with the tangy heat of kimchi for a refreshing yet satisfying bowl that continues to build with every bite.

Its toppings include Cup Noodles’ famous “mystery meat” seasoned pork cubes, kimchi, egg, green onion, and sesame seeds.

Meanwhile, the Cold Cup Noodles Chicken Salt Lemon flavor blends the savory taste of chicken with bonito and dried sardine stock before finishing with a bright citrus aroma from lemon for a lighter, more refreshing flavor.

The ingredients for the Chicken Salt Lemon version include steamed chicken, egg, green onion, and red pepper.

The introduction of a cold water-only Cup Noodles marks one of the biggest changes in the brand’s history, with the packaging even warning consumers not to use boiling water when preparing the noodles.

Both Cold Cup Noodles Spicy Kimchi and Cold Cup Noodles Chicken Salt Lemon are priced at ¥313 including tax (approx. $2 USD / £2 GBP) and will be available nationwide across Japan from July 20, 2026.
