Bandai has revealed a unique new One Piece figure that turns one of Eiichiro Oda’s celebratory anniversary illustrations into a designer art toy.

The new “LUFFY’s ARTCANVAS 1/8 -20th Anniversary-” takes artwork originally created for the manga’s 20th anniversary and reworks it around the distinctive Luffy-inspired shape used throughout Bandai’s LUFFY’s figure collection.

One Piece celebrated 20 years of serialization in 2017, marking two decades since Luffy’s journey first began in Weekly Shonen Jump and providing Oda with another opportunity to bring together characters from across the increasingly large world of the series.

LUFFY’s itself takes inspiration from the small straw hat-wearing Luffy used as the letter “I” in the One Piece logo, with Bandai developing the recognizable silhouette into a series of art toys that can be adapted to feature different characters, artwork, and other collaborations.

Previous LUFFY’s releases have included smaller 1/20-scale blind-box figures and event exclusives, but the ARTCANVAS line takes a much larger approach to the same idea.

The new 1/8-scale release stands approximately 21.5 cm tall, matching one-eighth of Luffy’s official 172 cm height and providing considerably more space for the anniversary illustration to spread across the figure.

Bandai has wrapped the colorful design around much of the sculpt, allowing characters and other details from Oda’s original illustration to continue across its curved surfaces.

Hydrographic printing is used to apply the graphics, with experienced craftspeople manually positioning the design during production.

The composition across the front follows a fixed arrangement, ensuring that the most important part of the artwork remains recognizable when the figure is displayed.

Elsewhere, however, the placement of the print varies from one example to another, meaning the artwork can fall differently across the sides, rear and other surfaces of each figure.

That production method effectively gives every piece its own slightly different finish, adding an individual element to a release already built around one of One Piece’s major anniversary illustrations.

The new figure follows an earlier ARTCANVAS release based on Oda’s commemorative artwork for the manga’s 1,000th chapter, further establishing the larger LUFFY’s format as a way of presenting his illustrations beyond conventional prints and merchandise.

Bandai has also been expanding the wider LUFFY’s lineup throughout 2026, including a recent version inspired by Loki as the “Cursed Prince” continues to play a major role in the ongoing Elbaf Arc.

Another recent design takes its inspiration from the Setouchi Blue One Piece Shinkansen, carrying the colors and imagery of JR West’s One Piece-themed bullet train over to the small Luffy-shaped collectible.

This latest LUFFY’s figure joins a huge range of recent One Piece merchandise, with MegaHouse recently announcing the return of their popular Portrait.Of.Pirates “S.O.C” Trafalgar Law figure after almost a decade.

Bandai’s recent Ichiban Kuji releases have meanwhile continued to follow the current Elbaf storyline, including the GIANT BASH!! Vol.2 collection and its first official figure of Scopper Gaban.

Together with the expanding LUFFY’s range, these releases show how current One Piece merchandise is increasingly mixing new Elbaf characters with releases that look back at important moments from the manga’s nearly three-decade history.

The figure is scheduled for release in March 2027.
