One Piece’s Official Bullet Train Collab Inspires Exclusive New Luffy Figure
Bandai is turning one of Japan’s most colorful anime-themed bullet trains into a unique new collectible, combining the Straw Hat’s captain Luffy, with the design of one of the official One Piece Shinkansen.
The upcoming figure celebrates the ongoing One Piece collaboration with JR West’s Sanyo Shinkansen, which has brought specially decorated trains featuring Luffy and other characters from the series to one of Japan’s major high-speed rail routes.
One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates on their journey across the Grand Line in search of the legendary treasure that gives the series its name, with Luffy’s adventures growing into one of the world’s most successful manga and anime franchises since the story began in 1997.
JR West launched its One Piece × Sanyo Shinkansen project in 2025, introducing three themed trains that operate along the Sanyo Shinkansen between Shin-Osaka and Hakata.
The “Setouchi Blue” train was the first of the three to enter service on April 12, 2025, using the concept of “Returning to the Grand Line” to transform the scenery surrounding the Seto Inland Sea into part of Luffy and his crew’s latest journey.
Its exterior combines a blue and white color scheme with large illustrations of Luffy and other One Piece characters, turning the Shinkansen itself into one of the collaboration’s biggest attractions.
Bandai’s new “LUFFY’s ONE PIECE Shinkansen -Setouchi Blue-” takes that train and effectively reshapes it around Luffy, creating a stylized 1/20 scale figure that stands around 8.6 cm tall.
The pose draws inspiration from Luffy’s silhouette in the One Piece logo, while the body of the figure has been covered with blue and white patterns taken from the Setouchi Blue train.
One of the cleverest details appears on Luffy’s trademark straw hat, with its brim stretched forward into a pointed shape resembling the aerodynamic nose of a Shinkansen while still retaining the character’s familiar appearance.
Luffy’s wide smile remains intact beneath the redesigned hat, resulting in a figure that sits somewhere between a character collectible and a miniature souvenir celebrating the real train.
The release forms part of TAMASHII NATIONS’ LUFFY’s project, a collection built around interpreting the experiences and memories associated with Luffy’s adventures through unusual collectible designs.
The “LUFFY’s ONE PIECE Shinkansen -Setouchi Blue-,” priced at ¥1,980 (approx. $13 USD / £10 GBP), will initially be sold through select train station stores and retail outlets in JR West’s operating region, alongside designated online retailers including DISCOVER WEST mall and Train Box.
The figure is scheduled for release during October 2026, with Premium Bandai Japan pre-orders due to open separately on October 23, 2026.
