Death Note and Mooncat Reveal New 20th Anniversary Beauty Collab Collection

Death Note is celebrating its anime’s 20th anniversary with a dark new beauty collaboration inspired by Light, L, Misa, Ryuk and some of the series’ most memorable scenes.
The new “DEATH NOTE x MOONCAT” collection features nine limited-edition nail polishes spanning magnetic, thermal, matte and shimmer finishes, with each shade drawing its name and color palette directly from the supernatural thriller.

Created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows Light Yagami after he discovers a notebook capable of killing anyone whose name is written inside, setting off his transformation into Kira and an increasingly dangerous battle of wits with the detective L.

Madhouse’s anime adaptation first aired in October 2006, placing the collaboration within Death Note’s current 20th anniversary celebrations alongside projects such as Bandai’s upcoming second Death Note Ichiban Kuji, which brings Near and Mello back for new anniversary releases.

Mooncat founder Michelle Lin is a longtime Death Note fan, with the collaboration built around the series’ dark color palette and supernatural imagery rather than simply applying character artwork to existing shades.

The collection moves between references to individual characters and specific moments from the story, with Light’s ambitions, L’s habits, Misa and Rem’s relationship and Ryuk’s obsession with apples all reflected across the nine names.
Let’s take a look at the full DEATH NOTE x MOONCAT collection!
- Misa Misa

A purple and pink magnetic cat-eye polish inspired by Misa Amane, producing a shifting highlighted effect when used with a magnetic wand.

- Rem’s Requiem

A soft lavender-pink magnetic shade set against a gray base and scattered with silver glitter, taking its name from Misa’s Shinigami companion Rem.

- Mourning Rain

A muted gray-green shimmer with a matte finish inspired by one of the anime’s most somber rain-soaked sequences.

- Shinigami Realm

A temperature-reactive thermal polish that changes from dark gray toward silver as it warms, reflecting the desolate world inhabited by the Shinigami.

- God of the New World

A second thermal shade based on Light Yagami, shifting from deep burgundy to smoky charcoal as its temperature changes.

- Sunset Over Tokyo

A blue-and-yellow shimmer drawing from the series’ dramatic Tokyo imagery and contrasting warm and cool tones.

- Gods of Death Love Apples

A vivid crimson shimmer referencing both Ryuk’s obsession with apples and one of Death Note’s most famous recurring phrases.

- Sugarfuel Brain Calories

An L-inspired blue shade packed with shimmer, holographic glitter, star-shaped glitter and reflective flakes, turning the detective’s constant appetite for sweets into one of the collection’s busiest finishes.

- Ryuk Was Bored

A deep blue-to-silver magnetic cat-eye shade named after the simple reason Ryuk drops a Death Note into the human world at the beginning of the story.

All nine shades come in specially designed bottles with matte-black caps created for the collaboration, while the limited Collector’s Boxed Set packages the complete lineup inside a presentation box styled after the Death Note itself.

The boxed version also includes an exclusive sticker sheet and magnetic wand for manipulating the cat-eye effects used by several of the polishes.
The beauty collaboration follows another lifestyle-focused Death Note release earlier this year, when Light and L inspired a new official fragrance collection built around scents intended to reflect their opposing personalities.
Image by James RichardsonMisa has also been at the center of Death Note’s recent fashion releases, including a gothic collection inspired by her signature wardrobe that leaned heavily into the same darker visual identity explored by Mooncat.

The “DEATH NOTE x MOONCAT” collection is available from Mooncat’s official online store from October 30, 2026 across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and selected countries in Central and South America, with the four standard shades priced at $17 each and the magnetic and thermal polishes at $18 each.

The limited Collector’s Boxed Set, which contains all nine polishes alongside the exclusive stickers and magnetic wand, is priced at $139 and will remain available only for a limited time while stocks last.
