Nintendo Announces Upgraded Switch 2 Versions of All Three Mainline Xenoblade Games

Nintendo used its Nintendo Direct presentation on June 9, 2026, to reveal Nintendo Switch 2 Edition releases for Xenoblade Definitive Edition, Xenoblade 2, and Xenoblade 3.
The upgraded versions will bring the entire mainline Xenoblade trilogy to Nintendo’s latest hardware with both technical improvements and new gameplay additions.
Xenoblade Definitive Edition follows Shulk and his companions as they journey across the colossal bodies of two dormant titans, uncovering the truth behind the conflict between the peoples of Bionis and Mechonis while confronting the mechanical Mechon threat.

Xenoblade 2 centers on Rex and the living weapon Pyra as they travel across the cloud-covered world of Alrest in search of the legendary paradise known as Elysium, encountering rival factions, powerful Blades, and ancient mysteries along the way.

Xenoblade 3 takes place in the war-torn land of Aionios, where protagonists Noah and Mio join forces with allies from opposing nations to challenge the cycle of conflict governing their world and uncover the truth behind its existence.
All three Nintendo Switch 2 Edition releases will support gameplay at 60 frames per second, providing a smoother experience than previous versions.
When played in TV mode, the games will support 4K resolution output, while handheld mode will allow players to experience the adventures in Full HD resolution.
Each title will also include exclusive new content created specifically for the Switch 2 editions.
Xenoblade Definitive Edition will introduce a new vehicle designed to make traversing the game’s expansive environments significantly faster.

Xenoblade 2 is set to receive a new action battle mode centered around the Mercenary Group system.

Xenoblade 3 will add a fresh gameplay mode focused on battling large waves of incoming enemies in rapid succession.

The digital version and upgrade pass for Xenoblade Definitive Edition became available immediately following the announcement, while the physical edition is scheduled to launch on July 30, 2026.
For Xenoblade 2, the digital release and upgrade pass will become available on July 30, 2026, with the physical version following on October 1, 2026.
