Gundam 08th MS Team’s New RG Gunpla Kit Fully Revealed as Pre-Orders Begin

Pre-orders are now officially open for Bandai’s new RG 1/144 Ground Type Gundam, giving Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team fans the chance to secure the completely new Real Grade kit ahead of its 2027 release.

Bandai has also revealed a new collection of product images showing the finished model in considerably more detail, including its extensive weapon loadout, opening equipment compartments and articulation designed around some of the mobile suit’s most recognizable combat poses.

The kit was first announced during the recent “Latest! Gunpla Info Bureau” broadcast, where Bandai placed particular emphasis on recreating the Ground Type Gundam’s kneeling firing stance with the 180mm Cannon.

The Ground Type Gundam serves as one of the central Earth Federation mobile suits in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, where its practical equipment and ground-combat focus help give the series a noticeably different feel from many other Universal Century Gundam stories.

Bandai has recreated both the mobile suit itself and its extensive collection of weapons with completely new parts, accompanied by the smaller mechanical detailing expected from the Real Grade series.

The head antenna can be assembled in either white or yellow, providing builders with a choice between two different appearances for the completed model.

Much of the articulation has been developed around the waist and leg frames, allowing the Ground Type Gundam to crouch deeply and settle naturally into the low firing positions seen throughout the anime.

A dedicated ground-effect part is included for displaying the shield planted against the terrain, helping recreate the familiar scene of the mobile suit using it as a support while firing the 180mm Cannon.

The chest Vulcan housing and cockpit hatch can both open, adding smaller mechanical details to the finished model without requiring additional parts.

Each leg also includes an opening Beam Saber storage compartment, recreating the unusual location used to carry the Ground Type Gundam’s close-range weapons.

The large Weapon Container fitted to the backpack receives considerably more attention, with an opening structure that allows the disassembled 180mm Cannon to be stored inside.

Bandai includes a dedicated weapon rack for holding the separated Cannon components, which can then be positioned within the container for a much more accurate recreation of the mobile suit’s field equipment.

A sliding mechanism on the side of the Weapon Container can also push the internal rack outward, while the backpack itself can reproduce the lowering movement used when accessing the stored equipment.

The complete weapon selection includes a 100mm Machine Gun, 180mm Cannon, Rocket Launcher and Beam Rifle alongside two Beam Sabers and the shield.

Interchangeable hands, the shield display effect, alternate antenna parts, foil stickers and Realistic Decals complete the accessory selection.

The RG Ground Type Gundam forms part of the same recent wave of Gunpla releases as the HG Hamma-Hamma and MGSD 00 Raiser, both of which have also now opened for pre-orders alongside newly revealed product images.

Other recent announcements have included the MGEX Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam, FULL MECHANICS Graze Ein and a new PG UNLEASHED Nu Gundam expansion, while Bandai’s completed figure division has launched the ABSOLUTE ACT series with Strike Freedom Gundam.

The “RG 1/144 Ground Type Gundam” is a general retail kit priced at ¥4,620 (approx. $29 USD / £21 GBP), with pre-orders now open through reputable hobby goods retailers such as HobbyLink Japan ahead of its scheduled February 2027 release.

Pre-orders may also shortly open through Bandai’s official retail channels, including Premium Bandai US, as although the kit is not a Premium Bandai exclusive, the store does frequently offer general retail Gunpla for pre-order.
