Momotaro Dentetsu Series Surpasses 20.1 Million Sales

Konami Digital Entertainment has announced that the Momotaro Dentetsu board game series reached a new milestone by selling over 20.1 million units as of March 2026.
This long-running franchise began in December 1988 with its first entry on the Famicom and was originally created as a spin-off of the Momotaro Densetsu series by Hudson Soft.
The series has seen significant growth in recent years, with total sales nearly doubling since 2011 when shipments were recorded at approximately 12 million units.
A major contributor to this success was the 2020 release of Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban!, which alone surpassed 4 million copies sold in Japan.
By August 7, 2025, the series total had reached 18.9 million units, a figure that eclipsed the lifetime sales of other major Konami properties like Silent Hill.
The momentum continued with the November 2025 launch of Momotaro Dentetsu 2: Anata no Machi mo Kitto Aru, which debuted at the top of the Japanese charts on both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2.
During its debut week ending November 16, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the latest title sold 90,706 units at retail while the standard Switch version moved 56,807 units.

Other recent installments such as Momotaro Dentetsu World: Chikyuu wa Kibou de Mawatteru! have also performed well, shipping over 1.5 million units including digital sales.
The series remains a staple of Japanese gaming culture, often featuring collaborations such as themed restaurants and decorated trains on the Choshi Electric Railway Line.
