Zeta Gundam’s Rarest Exclusive Gunpla Kit Finally Returns 5 Years After Its Last Release
One of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam’s rarest exclusive Gunpla kits is finally returning, with Bandai officially announcing a new production run for Gates Capa’s distinctive gray-blue Baund Doc.
The “HG 1/144 Baund Doc (Gates Capa Custom)” recreates the Titans prototype transformable Mobile Armor piloted by Gates, giving the normally colorful BAUND DOC a considerably more subdued appearance based around gray and blue armor.
The Premium Bandai exclusive kit originally debuted in Japan in October 2021, with two subsequent re-releases in the months following this, with its only US release to date being in December 2021.
That five-year gap makes the new production run particularly exciting for Zeta Gundam collectors, especially as Gates Capa’s version has never received the more regular availability enjoyed by the standard HG Baund Doc.
Gates appears during the later stages of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam as a Cyber-Newtype associated with the Titans and serves as the monitor assigned to Rosamia Badam, piloting his own differently colored Baund Doc alongside her better-known machine.
Bandai recreates those dedicated colors through molded parts rather than relying on extensive painting, with the large skirt armor and heavily asymmetrical construction giving the Mobile Suit its unmistakable silhouette.
The kit can also transform between its Mobile Suit and Mobile Armor configurations, retaining one of the most important features of the Baund Doc while allowing either form to be displayed using the included dedicated stand.
Its weapons include a Beam Rifle and Beam Saber alongside the Baund Doc’s built-in Diffuse Mega Particle Cannon, providing the equipment needed to recreate its appearances from the series.
Japanese pre-orders for the “HG 1/144 Baund Doc (Gates Capa Custom)” opened through Premium Bandai Japan on September 1, 2026, priced at ¥6,050 (approx. $38 USD / £28 GBP), with the new production run scheduled to ship in January 2027.
Premium Bandai US has yet to relist the kit, although with its last release in the region also shipping almost 5 years ago, a new US pre-order opportunity is similarly overdue.
Bandai frequently follows Japanese Premium Bandai Gunpla announcements with corresponding US listings, so there’s a strong chance the “HG 1/144 BAUND DOC (GATES CAPA CUSTOM)” will return to Premium Bandai US very soon.
