Legendary rock band ELLEGARDEN to provide new opening theme for One Piece anime

A new opening theme song has been announced for the globally popular television anime series, One Piece.
The new song, titled “Carmine,” will be performed by the iconic Japanese rock band, ELLEGARDEN.

This collaboration is a significant event, as it marks the first time in the band’s long and influential career that they have written a song specifically for an anime tie-in.
ELLEGARDEN is a band that has maintained a massive following in the Japanese rock scene, known for its powerful live performances and high-quality music.

Despite their popularity, the band has a reputation for being “street-style,” with minimal exposure in mainstream media, a fact that makes their partnership with a franchise as large as One Piece all the more noteworthy.
The song was written by the band’s frontman, Takeshi Hosomi, who is reportedly a long-time fan of the original manga by Eiichiro Oda.
One Piece is one of a handful of the most successful and long-running entertainment franchises in the world, and the artists chosen to perform its opening themes are often a subject of great interest.

The new opening sequence featuring ELLEGARDEN’s song “Carmine” is scheduled to begin airing on Japanese television with the broadcast on Sunday, the 10th of August, 2025.
A teaser video containing a first chance to listen to the new opening has been released on YouTube:
