Jumbo SD RX-78-2 Gundam figure gets another production run

A fourth wave of pre-orders has opened for the “Jumbo Sofvi Figure SD RX-78-2 Gundam” due to consistent demand from fans.
The figure is a large-scale representation of the original RX-78-2 Gundam in the “Super Deformed” or “SD” style.

The SD Gundam sub-franchise is a long-running and popular part of the Gundam universe, known for reimagining the series’ iconic mobile suits with cute, chibi-style proportions featuring large heads and compact bodies.

This product line reimagines the classic mobile suit as a “Jumbo Sofvi Figure.”
“Sofvi,” or soft vinyl, is a classic material used in Japanese toy manufacturing for decades, known for its durability and nostalgic feel.

The figure stands at an impressive height of approximately 23 centimeters and while it is primarily a display piece, it features limited articulation with rotation in the neck, shoulders, and wrists, allowing for simple posing.

It comes complete with the Gundam’s signature armaments, including its Beam Rifle, a Beam Saber, and the Gundam Shield.

As an exclusive bonus for purchasing through the Premium Bandai store, the figure also includes a “Character Plate.”

The fact that this figure has already gone through three previous pre-order runs and is now entering its fourth indicates its significant popularity among collectors and fans of both the classic Gundam design and the SD Gundam aesthetic.

The “Jumbo Sofvi Figure SD RX-78-2 Gundam” is priced at 16,500 yen (approx. $111 USD / £82 GBP), and this fourth pre-order window is scheduled to remain open until 11:00 PM on the 19th of August, 2025.

Orders can now be placed via Premium Bandai, and the figures from this production run are expected to be shipped to customers in December 2025.

For Gundam fans who prefer a more detailed and complex figure, the highly sought-after PG UNLEASHED RX-78-2 Gundam is also set to be re-released later this year.
