Pokémon Reveals Exclusive Mewtwo Promo for 30th Celebration TCG Release
Pokémon is giving collectors another reason to celebrate its 30th anniversary, with a special Mewtwo promo card set to be distributed through participating retailers this October.
The new card is being released alongside Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration and features special “Pokémon 30” and “What’s Your Favorite?” logos, separating it from the regular version of Mewtwo found within the anniversary expansion.
Mewtwo has been closely associated with Pokémon since the earliest days of the franchise, appearing as the final numbered Pokémon in the original Kanto Pokédex and becoming one of the most recognizable Legendary Pokémon through its major role in the games, anime, and first Pokémon movie.
Its selection for the promotion also fits the wider 30th Celebration expansion, which brings together Pokémon and artwork from across the history of the Trading Card Game while revisiting several cards and ideas associated with its earlier eras.
Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration will launch worldwide on September 16, with every card in the expansion receiving a foil treatment and every booster pack guaranteed to contain one of 30 different Pikachu cards created for the anniversary.
Recent reveals have also confirmed 15 additional Illustration Rare and Special Illustration Rare cards divided between daytime and nighttime scenes, alongside cards including Mew and Mewtwo Futuristic Rares, Greninja ex, Sylveon ex, and commemorative versions of the original Base Set Charizard and Pikachu & Zekrom-GX.
The new Mewtwo promo will become available shortly after the expansion itself, with collectors in the US able to claim one from October 2 by spending at least $15 on eligible Pokémon TCG products.
Participating US retailers include GameStop, Best Buy, Hot Topic, Five Below, Barnes & Noble, Macy’s, and BoxLunch, with the promotion available both in stores and online while supplies last.
The promotion is not limited to the US, with Canada also included through participating EB Games locations from October 2.
Pokémon has additionally confirmed the promotion for Oceania, with participating retailers including EB Games Australia, JB Hi-Fi, BIG W, Toymate and Mr Toys.
No corresponding promotion has currently been announced for the UK or wider European market, so collectors in those regions will need to wait to see whether additional distribution plans are revealed closer to October.
Each Mewtwo promo will also be accompanied by a separate card containing a QR code linked to Pokémon Night Out, a series of EDM concerts that form part of the franchise’s wider anniversary celebrations.
The Mewtwo card joins an increasingly large selection of releases created for Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, with one of the most recent reveals transforming artwork from the new TCG expansion into an official series of collectible Pikachu figures.
The China-exclusive “Dream Painting 30th Anniversary Pikachu Figure Set” contains 12 standard figures based on different Pikachu cards alongside a much rarer secret design recreating Mitsuhiro Arita’s original 1996 Pikachu artwork, with every blind box also including the corresponding foil card and an anniversary booster pack.
Image by Charlotte DavisA separate “Charizard Figure Gift Box” takes the same concept further by turning Arita’s original Charizard card artwork into a larger three-dimensional display piece, accompanied by an oversized version of the card and 15 Simplified Chinese 30th Anniversary Celebration booster packs.
Image by Charlotte DavisThe anniversary has also extended well beyond the TCG, with recent releases including the Pokémon x Polaroid camera collection, Pokémon Center’s region-spanning Timeless Adventure merchandise collections and several new figure ranges covering first partner Pokémon from Kanto through Paldea.
The Pokémon TCG Mewtwo promotion will begin on October 2, 2026, in the US, Canada, and participating Oceania markets, with cards only available while allocated supplies remain.
