Japan’s Top Auction Sites Ban Resale of McDonald’s New Chiikawa Happy Meal Toys

Japan’s three largest online flea market platforms have officially announced a strict ban on the resale of McDonald’s new Chiikawa Happy Meal toys.
Mercari, Rakuten’s Rakuma, and Yahoo Auctions have united in a rare coordinated move to block scalpers from profiting off the adorable McDonald’s Japan collaboration.

This unified marketplace restriction directly addresses the massive public controversy generated during previous promotional events featuring the hit manga series.
During a prior crossover event held in May 2025, aggressive reselling tactics and incredibly high demand led to extreme food waste across the country.

Scalpers abandoned large quantities of uneaten meals inside and outside of store locations, discarding full food trays simply to sell the exclusive toys at massive markups.
To actively combat this unethical behavior, the three major auction platforms have pledged to monitor their sites closely.

The sweeping resale ban covers all promotional items distributed during the current campaign and will remain actively enforced until June 14, 2026.
Platform administrators will issue strict warnings and immediately delete any active listings attempting to sell the Happy Set exclusive Chiikawa 3D pencil toppers.

Users who repeatedly violate these new marketplace guidelines will face severe consequences, including permanent account restrictions.
These robust secondary market regulations perfectly complement the strict anti-scalping measures already implemented by the fast-food chain itself.

McDonald’s Japan has explicitly stated that the company does not tolerate the abandonment of food or purchases made purely for profit purposes.
In a change to previous promotions, diners must now present a digital purchasing ticket obtained exclusively via the official smartphone app on the opening day of each release wave.

Purchases of breakfast and regular menus are also firmly capped at four sets per group per transaction to ensure genuine fans can secure the items.
