New Evangelion Game “Cross Reflections” Officially Delayed Until 2027

Evangelion fans will have to wait a little longer to enter NERV for themselves, as the upcoming XR game EVANGELION: Δ CROSS REFLECTIONS has officially been delayed.
Developer Pixelity announced on August 25 that the game’s previously planned 2026 release has been moved into 2027.
Pixelity apologized to fans who had been waiting for the game and said further information regarding its new release timing will be announced through the official EVANGELION: Δ CROSS REFLECTIONS social media accounts once it has been decided.
No specific reason has been given for the delay, so it is currently unclear whether the additional development time is connected to technical work, content production or another part of the project.
EVANGELION: Δ CROSS REFLECTIONS is being developed as an immersive XR game that combines virtual reality and mixed reality technology to place players directly within the world of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion television anime.

Rather than playing as Shinji Ikari or another established character, players take the role of a NERV officer candidate living in Tokyo-3 and working alongside both familiar Evangelion characters and an original cast created specifically for the game.
The story runs alongside events from the original anime while introducing situations involving the player’s own character, with the first installment covering the period surrounding Episodes 1 through 11.

Pixelity plans to turn the wider project into three games, eventually creating an XR experience based around the timeline of all 26 episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Two different modes have been shown so far, with Story Mode focusing on the narrative and interactions around NERV while Battle Mode places greater emphasis on combat inside a NERV simulation environment.

One of the more unusual parts of the project is its controller-free approach, with Pixelity developing the game around hand tracking so that actions can be performed using the player’s hands and fingers rather than conventional VR controllers.
Recent footage has also shown areas inside NERV Headquarters alongside interactions and gameplay built around that hand-tracking system, providing a much clearer idea of how the finished experience is intended to work.
The delay does not appear to affect Pixelity’s planned Hands-on Preview events, which the developer says are still being prepared as originally intended.
Those previews were first announced earlier this year as a way for more players around the world to experience the game before release, following previous limited tests in Japan and the US and a public demonstration during Evangelion’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

The first upcoming Hands-on Preview is planned for San Francisco, with additional events also being prepared for Germany and Japan, although dates, venues and participation details have not yet been announced.
That means fans should still get further opportunities to see how EVANGELION: Δ CROSS REFLECTIONS is developing during 2026 even though the full game will no longer arrive this year.
EVANGELION: Δ CROSS REFLECTIONS is now scheduled for release sometime in 2027, with Pixelity yet to confirm its exact release date or final supported platforms.
