Galaxy Express 999 Exhibition Opens This April

The Kadokawa Culture Museum is set to host a major interactive event celebrating Rintaro’s film adaptation of the Galaxy Express 999 manga.

Titled THE GALAXY EXPERIENCE: That Journey Continues, this immersive exhibition will run for six months from April 25 to October 26, 2026.

The event focuses on the 1979 classic film and will be held in the museum’s 1,000 square meter Grand Gallery located on the first floor.

Attendees can view the film using advanced 4K laser projectors and an 8.1 channel surround sound system designed to create a three-dimensional atmosphere.

Beyond the screening, the venue features a life-size replica of a Galaxy Express 999 train car that guests are permitted to board for photography.

The exhibition space includes a 25-meter train track lined with famous quotes and various production materials from the movie’s creation.

Visitors will also encounter a digest video at the entrance that explains the motivations behind the protagonist Tetsuro’s trip to the stars.

This announcement follows the recent news that Masako Ikeda, the voice actor for the iconic character Maetel, passed away at the age of 87 on March 14, 2026.

For those unable to attend the physical event, the original anime adaptation remains available for streaming on Crunchyroll.

The story follows a young boy named Tetsuro who travels on the space train toward the Immortal Planet to trade his human body for a robotic one.
