The Echizen Fish Festival is one of the largest seafood events in Fukui Prefecture.

This annual festival is held to celebrate the start of the bottom trawl fishing season on September 1st.

It takes place in the town of Echizen, an area famous for its delicious seafood caught off the coast.

The two-day event is packed with activities that allow you to get familiar with fish and the local fishing industry.

One of the main draws is the Tengurimon Market, selling freshly caught seafood and other delicacies at special prices.

Visitors can also participate in a variety of unique hands-on experiences.

These include a fishing boat ride experience that takes you out to sea, and a fish catching event where you can take home the fish you catch.

Other activities include a fresh fish auction, an interactive aquarium where you can touch local sea creatures, and an Echizen garei filleting class.

- The festival will be held over a weekend in mid-September.
- The dates are Saturday, September 20th – Sunday, September 21st, 2025.

- The festival runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm on both days.

Activities
- Fishing Boat Ride
  - A 30-minute ride on a fishing boat, available from 10:00am to 2:00pm for a fee.
- Fish Catching
  - An experience for children to catch fish like yellowtail, held in three sessions per day for a fee.
- Fresh Fish Auction
  - An auction experience starting from 2:15pm where you can bid on fresh fish.
- Echizen Garei Filleting Class
  - A class held twice daily where you can learn to fillet the local Echizen flatfish.
Please Note
- Many of the hands-on experiences require a separate fee and have limited capacity, using either a lottery or first-come, first-served system.
- The event will be held in case of rain, but content may change depending on the weather.

By Train
- The nearest major train station is Takefu Station.
- JR Hokuriku Main Line
  - Take the JR Hokuriku Main Line to Takefu Station.
  - The Hokuriku Shinkansen also stops at the adjacent Echizen-Takefu Station.
From Takefu Station to the Venue
- The festival venue is located on the coast, a significant distance from the train station.
- Bus
  - A local bus service runs from Takefu Station towards the coast.
  - Look for buses heading to the Echizen-kaigan (Echizen Coast) area.
- Car
  - Driving is a very convenient way to access the venue, which has free parking available, including temporary lots with a shuttle bus service.
