Chiikawa anime announces summer return after three month break

Chiikawa fans will be delighted to hear that the anime will start airing new episodes this July, after a three-month period of airing re-runs.
The short-form anime, based on the massively popular characters created by illustrator Nagano, airs as a segment within the morning news program “Mezamashi TV”.

The “Chiikawa” franchise has become a cultural phenomenon in Japan, spawning a vast range of merchandise and collaborations, including a recently released official cookbook.

Its stories follow the titular character Chiikawa and friends like Hachiware and Usagi as they navigate the challenges of their daily lives, blending cute visuals with themes of anxiety, labor, and friendship.

Since April, the show has been airing re-runs, however, this is set to change very soon as a new key visual announcing the anime’s return has been released.
This promotional image includes the character Momonga alongside the main trio of Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi.

Momonga is a character from the manga known for his demanding and sometimes selfish behavior, and his inclusion in the new promo images suggest that the upcoming episodes will adapt stories that feature him.

The new batch of episodes is described by the animation team as having a feeling of the early summer season and in addition to the new visual, it has been confirmed that the series’ ending sequence will also be updated.

The show’s ending theme is the song “Hitorigotsu”, a solo piece sung by Hachiware’s voice actor, Makoto Tanaka, which has become a viral hit on its own.

The return of the “Chiikawa” anime will be accompanied by a new version of the video for this popular song.
The series airs on Tuesday and Friday mornings at approximately 7:40 AM as part of “Mezamashi TV”, and the broadcast of the new “Chiikawa” episodes is set to start on July 15th.
