Pokémon’s Magnemite Stars in New Official 30th Anniversary Bedding Collab Collection

NELL×COIL (Magnemite) COLLECTION Main

Pokémon’s 30th anniversary celebrations have found a particularly clever new use for Magnemite, filling an entire collection of bedding and loungewear with the floating Electric-type Pokémon as part of a collaboration with Japanese sleep brand NELL.

The “NELL×COIL COLLECTION” revolves around a simple play on words, connecting the pocket coils used inside NELL’s mattresses with Magnemite, whose Japanese name is “Coil”.

That connection has been turned into the concept “The more coils, the better,” with large numbers of Magnemite appearing throughout the collection while other Pokémon peacefully sleep surrounded by them.

NELL has deliberately kept the colors relatively subdued so the character artwork can sit naturally within an adult bedroom, resulting in sheets and covers that use an all-over Pokémon pattern without relying on the much brighter colors normally associated with character bedding.

The collaboration also fits directly into the latest theme of Pokémon’s year-long 30th anniversary celebrations, which is centered around “sleeping” as the franchise continues marking three decades since Pokémon Red and Green launched in Japan in 1996.

That theme has already appeared across several recent projects, including the latest Pokémon Timeless Adventure collection, which depicts Alola starters Rowlet, Litten and Popplio resting together on Mantine and includes a complete Pokémon Center-inspired nap set.

Pokémon Sleep has also become part of the anniversary’s focus on rest, with a giant Poké Ball hotel experience recently announced for Hokkaido alongside new sleep-focused merchandise and technology collaborations, including a limited edition Google Fitbit Air.

NELL’s contribution approaches the theme from the practical side by building the Pokémon artwork into products specifically intended for sleeping and relaxing at home.

The main collection consists of four products, with both the box sheet and duvet cover available in several bed sizes.

  • NELL×COIL Box Sheet – from ¥8,500 (approximately $55 / £41)

  • NELL×COIL Duvet Cover – from ¥10,000 (approximately $65 / £48)

  • NELL×COIL Pillow & Pillowcase Set – ¥23,500 (approximately $153 / £113)

Both the sheet and pillowcase use a cotton and rayon blend with stretch built into the material, while NELL has also applied its Nano Fine treatment to suppress the growth of bacteria associated with sweat and damp odors by more than 99.9%.

The fitted sheet is designed to remain tightly attached while you move around during the night, and NELL says the material retains its antibacterial performance even after repeated washing.

The pillow set combines the Pokémon-themed cover with NELL’s existing adjustable pillow, which uses independently structured fiber sections to support the head and can be configured to four different heights.

For anyone wanting to wear the Magnemite pattern rather than sleep on it, the matching loungewear includes a loose-fitting top and straight-leg pants made from a stretch material designed to absorb moisture and dry quickly.

NELL has also created several larger bundles that pair the collaboration designs with its existing mattresses, duvets and pillows, allowing the same Magnemite-filled theme to be carried across considerably more of the bed.

The Pokémon treatment continues into the packaging, with eligible items arriving inside a special carton styled around the familiar red and white colors of a Poké Ball.

Turning the box around reveals another swarm of Magnemite, while an additional message has been hidden inside for buyers to discover when they open it.

NELL has taken the Magnemite collaboration outside the bedroom as well, filling advertising around Tokyo’s Shibuya Station with huge numbers of the Pokémon to represent the abundance of pocket coils used inside its mattresses, with the campaign running through September 13.
