Zelda’s Official 3D Metal Puzzle Collection Adds New Limited Edition Master Sword and Hylian Shield Sets
Image by Charlotte DavisThe Master Sword and Hylian Shield are being transformed into two premium new metal puzzle sets, giving The Legend of Zelda fans a much more elaborate way to display two of Link’s most recognizable pieces of equipment.
Japanese puzzle maker Hanayama has revealed the “Huzzle The Legend of Zelda Premium Gold Edition” and “Huzzle The Legend of Zelda Masterpiece Color Edition,” both combining detailed miniature recreations of the legendary sword and shield with the mechanical puzzle gimmicks associated with its long-running Huzzle series.
The sets challenge owners to work out how to remove the Master Sword before returning the pieces to their original configuration, combining the detailed Zelda recreations with the hands-on problem-solving that defines the Huzzle range.
The concept builds on Hanayama’s existing Zelda Huzzle collection, which has previously turned the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, Triforce, Hyrule Crest and other familiar objects into compact metal puzzles.
These two new editions take a more premium approach by packaging the sword and shield together and substantially upgrading their finishes, with each set aimed as much at collectors as people interested in solving the puzzle itself.
The Premium Gold Edition gives both pieces a highly reflective gold-plated finish, covering the Master Sword and Hylian Shield in a mirror-like metallic surface that catches the light across their sculpted details.
Its Master Sword measures approximately 9 cm tall and 5 cm wide, while the Hylian Shield measures around 7 cm tall and 5 cm wide.
The Masterpiece Color Edition instead recreates the familiar in-game appearance of the two items, using detailed coloring across the Master Sword’s purple hilt and silver blade alongside the Hylian Shield’s blue surface, Triforce, and red crest.
This version is also larger than the regular Zelda Huzzle pieces, with the Master Sword measuring approximately 12 cm tall and 6 cm wide while the Hylian Shield measures around 8 cm tall and 6 cm wide.
Both editions come inside specially designed presentation boxes that can also be used to display the collectibles when they are not being handled or solved.
The Master Sword and Hylian Shield have appeared together across numerous Zelda adventures and have become an especially recognizable pairing through games including Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
The new puzzle sets arrive during The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary celebrations, marking four decades since the original game first launched for Nintendo’s Famicom Disk System in Japan in 1986.
Nintendo recently confirmed that the completely rebuilt Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will launch on November 5, bringing overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, orchestral music, and revised controls to the 1998 classic.
The anniversary celebrations are also producing several pieces of new merchandise, including HORI’s interactive electronic Ocarina of Time accessory and a range of action figures featuring Zelda, Link, and Ganondorf from Hasbro.
LEGO has also revealed a large Ocarina of Time display model showing Link riding Epona with the Master Sword raised above his head and the Hylian Shield attached to his back, while Nintendo is taking music from across the series on a worldwide 40th anniversary concert tour throughout 2027.
The two new Huzzle sets offer a considerably smaller alternative to some of the larger, and potentially more expensive, anniversary collectibles, while their metal construction and working puzzle mechanisms give them a different purpose from conventional replica weapons or static miniatures.
Pre-orders for both releases are now open through Hanayama’s official Japanese online store, with limited quantities available during the reservation period.
The “Huzzle The Legend of Zelda Premium Gold Edition” is priced at ¥8,800 (approximately $57 / £42) and is scheduled to begin shipping in mid-December 2026.
The larger “Huzzle The Legend of Zelda Masterpiece Color Edition” is priced at ¥11,000 (approximately $72 / £53) and is scheduled to begin shipping in late February 2027.
